Job Description

Summary 

The Head of Engineering leads the Engineering Department. The Engineering Department establishes new, and maintains and continuously improves Stellar’s existing production processes, and ensures that these processes meet the requirements of the high-mix to mid-volume business model. The Head of Engineering is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Department and the technical and professional development of the engineering team.

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the production engineering organization
  • Responsible for maintaining the production capabilities to support yield, scrap value, and on-time delivery goals 
  • Establish processing time, throughput and yield standards to support production costing
  • Implement and maintain process control tools, such as SPC
  • Lead the exception responses, including the engineering aspects of NCRs and CARs.
  • Identify and lead yield improvement and scrap reduction initiatives
  • Develop and maintain product design guidelines based on process capabilities
  • Lead the manufacturing introduction of new processes, production and metrology equipment
  • In cooperation with the Quality Department, establish and follow processes for engineering change management
  • In cooperation with other Departments, develop capital equipment roadmap, and plan manufacturing equipment acquisition and commissioning
  • Lead engineering team to excel, determine the need for, and execute staff training and talent development
  • Provide regular status updates to management


Experience

  • Ten or more years of experience as a practicing engineer. Three or more years’ experience managing and developing an engineering team. 
  • Track record of leading engineering teams to meet goals in a production environment
  • Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing with a wide variety of customers, vendors, and staff. 
  • Broad knowledge of ceramics and metal materials and processing, wet chemical etching and cleaning, thermal processing, photolithography, and related metrology methodologies.
  • Expert knowledge in at least one of the disciplines above.

Education 

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant Engineering or Science Discipline, for example, Chemical Engineering or Materials Engineering
