Department Summary


CAAAM is the Center for Agile and Adaptive Additive Manufacturing. CAAAM looks at additive manufacturing, which includes materials, science, cybersecurity, data analytics, logistics, and supply chain.

Established in 2019 by the Texas State Legislature with $10 million in funding and recently renewed through 2025, CAAAM conducts next-generation research, education, and workforce training in additive manufacturing. CAAAM's Institute for Transformative Education in Additive Manufacturing-or ITEAM-provides courses, seminars, workshops, symposia, in-lab training sessions, and summer camps for industry and community colleges.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. Position Overview


The Postdoctorate Research Associate role is primarily focused on the independent technical delivery of and leadership in the development of projects/activities related to powder processing and alloy development for AM within CAAAM (caaam.unt.edu), a State of Texas funded multimillion dollar initiative with a multidisciplinary focus on further advancing the science and technology of additive manufacturing (AM). This position will work with faculty across various departments with an interdisciplinary approach to AM. The primary responsibility of this position is to develop new powder processing technologies for alloys such as steels, aluminumbase, nickelbase, titaniumbase, and refractmy alloys, specifically for AM applications. Closely coupled with the AM powder processing will be development of next generation alloys and composites for AM. The selected candidate is expected to have experience in areas such as: processing of metallic/alloy powders, AM of metals and/or other powderbased manufacturing technologies such as hot isostatic pressing or spark plasma sintering of alloys/composites, alloy development including a strong background in physical metallurgy. The position is also expected to provide technical expertise and support to graduate and undergraduate students, assist/lead preparation of research proposals and scientific/technical papers and presentations.






Minimum Qualifications


Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in materials science and engineering or mechanical engineering or a related discipline with a strong research focus on powderbased alloy processing/manufacturing. The research background should be evident from the prior high quality publications.

Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.






Preferred Qualifications


Applicants that demonstrate aptitude and experience in interdisciplinary collaborations will be a plus.

  • Prepare manuscripts for publications in a timely manner and talks and posters for presentation at group meetings and conferences. Assist with reporting of research progress to funding agencies

  • Stay up-to-date with all trainings, and federal, state, university and department requirements
