Summary:

The Senior Bacteriology Technician shall assist the Lead/PI in Molecular Microbiological Experiments aimed at defining elements and factors involved in bacterial virulenceAssist in approximately 2 animal protocols conducted by other investigators. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Shall prepare approximately 10 different Reagents / Media for the lab (including R Medium, DMEM/FBS, LB Broth, Sodium Bicarbonate, APS LB Agar, BHI, etc). 
  • Contractor shall plate approximately 100 LB plates for use for Ames sporulation isolation and purification. 
  • Contractor shall isolate and purify approximately 10 plasmid DNA specimens. 
  • FITC label and count approximately 10 Ames samples to check ratio of Bacilli: Spores over multiple time points. 
  • Contractor shall order lab supplies for BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories including common supplies, custom orders, and equipment – approximately 400 items ordered along with 5 pieces of equipment. 
  • Present overview of data collected from Opsonic Adherence and ELISA at group meeting; present progress reports to supervising investigatorUse computer to prepare graphs and write reports for supervising investigator. 
  • Contractor shall perform approximately 100 Immunological, antibody determinations. 
  • Contractor shall perform approximately 100 ELISAs on mouse, nonhuman primate, and/or human serum. 
  • Contractor shall perform approximately 50 Cytokine analyses. Measures cytokines in mouse, nonhuman primate, and/or human serumMeasures cytokines in cell cultures and cell extractsUses a Luminex instrument for analysis. 
  • Contractor shall perform approximately 50 Flow Cytometry tasks, determining cellular distribution in mouse samples and intracellular cytokine expressionUses a BD FACS Calibur and BD FACS Canto II to analyze cellular distribution. 
  • Perform other duties as necessary. 

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Expertise in laboratory safety and aseptic techniques. 
  • Proficiency in biological assay procedures (ELISA, PCR). 
  • Ability to manage sample tracking and recordkeeping. 
  • Possesses experience, skill and expertise with a large variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. 
  • Minimum 7 years of related experience. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information, is required. 
  • Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACTIVE SECRET is preferred 
  • Ph.D. preferred

Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000 annually.
