TL;DR - Why This Role Matters
We’re hiring a Software Engineer to own and evolve Scribe’s billing platform. This system sits at the center of how Scribe makes money, powering revenue across 5M+ users and 600K+ organizations.
You'll work on a small, focused billing team. The work is scoped but consequential. Billing code needs to be correct, not just functional and you'll develop the habits and domain knowledge to know the difference.
This is a role for an engineer who wants to work on financially critical infrastructure, grow fast, and take real ownership of what they ship.
About the Role
You'll be joining a team in an active build phase, we're hardening existing workflows, scaling enterprise invoicing, and migrating billing infrastructure. There's real work to own, and it matters.
You won't be handed fully solved problems, but you also won't be navigating ambiguity alone. Your job is to execute well, ask good questions, and raise the bar on what "done" means in a financial system.
Over time, as you develop billing expertise, your scope will expand into adjacent systems like entitlements, reporting, and broader monetization infrastructure.
Our stack includes Django, DRF, Celery, PostgreSQL, Stripe, and Next.js. This is primarily a backend role, but you'll move across the stack when needed.
What You’ll Do
Implement and maintain Scribe’s billing and subscription workflows, including invoicing, plan changes, renewals, and payment recovery
Build and improve reconciliation processes that Finance and leadership rely on
Work on event-driven systems that remain correct under retries, partial outages, and concurrent writes
Contribute to self-serve and enterprise billing flows, including customer-facing UI and internal tooling
Develop and maintain test coverage for financially sensitive code
Surface edge cases and failure modes before they reach production
You Could Be a Great Fit If
You have 2-4 years of software engineering experience
You write code that is correct by construction, you think about edge cases and not just the happy path
You ask clarifying questions before writing code, and communicate blockers early
You take ownership of the work you ship, you don’t close a ticket without verifying it’s right
You are a strong backend engineer, ideally in Python
You are curious about how financial systems work and motivated to understand the domain deeply
You operate well with clear direction and are ready to grow into more autonomy over time
Bonus
Familiarity with Stripe or similar payment platforms
Experience with Django, Celery or PostgreSQL in a production environment
Exposure to enterprise workflows or financial reporting systems
