Position Overview
AKIVA is seeking an Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) to provide operational subject matter expertise on Safety Management System and Independent Operational Assessment (IOA) workstreams for the FAA Air Traffic Organization. You will participate in Safety Risk Management activities, support IOA planning and conduct at FAA field facilities, and contribute Air Traffic operational insight to assessment data collection and report writing. The role suits a former or current Certified Professional Controller or comparable ATCS who wants to apply operational experience to national-level safety and acquisition decisions.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide Air Traffic operations subject matter expertise to Safety Management System workstreams, including Safety Risk Management Panels and Safety Assurance reviews
· Review SRM documentation associated with FAA acquisition programs and contribute comments through the program office review cycle
· Collect and analyze data from safety-related data sources (occurrence reports, quality control data, operational data) to support monthly and quarterly Safety Performance Monitoring Reports
· Support IOA activities (remote or at FAA field facilities) including data collection, data reduction, and analysis
· Provide Air Traffic and Technical Operations subject matter expertise to IOA team discussions and document discussions for the record
· Contribute to draft IOA plans, procedures, reports, and briefings under the direction of the ISA Lead and senior engineering staff
· Document meetings, capture action items, and track follow-through commitments
· Coordinate with the Program Manager and the assessment leadership on workstream status, deliverable status, and risk
· Ensure all deliverables are Section 508 compliant
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Aviation Management, Engineering, or a related field (equivalent experience as a Certified Professional Controller may be substituted)
· 5+ years of professional Air Traffic Control or Air Traffic Operations experience
· Demonstrated experience supporting safety analyses, audits, assessments, or operational reviews
· Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to engage with technical and policy stakeholders
· Ability and willingness to travel up to four weeks at a time, including possible night and weekend shifts at FAA field facilities
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and at least one collaboration / file-sharing platform
· Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential
· Must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
· Up to 8 years of relevant experience
· Master's degree in Aviation, Aviation Management, or related discipline
· Certified Professional Controller (CPC) status, current or prior, in an FAA terminal or en route facility
· Familiarity with FAA Safety Management System (SMS), Safety Risk Management, and Independent Operational Assessment (IOA) processes
· Familiarity with ATO Occurrence Reporting (JO 7210.632A), ATO Quality Assurance (JO 7210.633A), and ATO Quality Control (JO 7210.634A)
· Section 508 Trusted Tester certification
· Familiarity with AI-assisted briefing-generation and data-analysis tools
