Course Code: KIN8127H: Exercise Programming for Cardiometabolic Health & Disease   


 


Course description: This course focuses on the application of exercise for populations at risk for and with cardiometabolic diseases in both research and general non-hospital-based settings. Students will learn the principles of clinical exercise testing and prescription with special considerations for research design and common conditions within the general population including obesity, cardiovascular risk factors, metabolic risk factors, cancers associated with cardiometabolic risk, type 2 diabetes as well as aging-related impairments. Emphasis will be placed on the demonstration of critical thinking, peer feedback, evidence-based decision making, and application of communication and physical skills relevant to exercise. Through case-based learning sessions, small and large group discussions, presentations, written assignments, and laboratories, students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to design and implement exercise-based research studies and to work with clients as an exercise professional.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD preferred in a relevant area, or combination of relevant expertise and experience. Teaching experience in college or university setting is an asset.


 
Description of duties: All duties associated with the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAs assigned to the course, if applicable. This course will be taught in person.
