Library - Access Services Student Assistant

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Bunch Library seeks customer service-oriented
student assistants to work in the Access Services Department, answer
directional and basic library-related questions, shelve books and media, and
maintain the library collection and physical space.

Job Duties:

  • Staff the Information Desk
  • Answer
    direction and basic library-related questions. Assist patrons with
    locating/retrieving library materials
  • Refer research questions to the research
    librarians
  • Responsible for basic care and upkeep of the library areas. Stacks
    maintenance including, but not limited to, pulling, shelving, and shifting
    books, microform, media and bound periodicals
  • Knowledge of all library
    collections and the varying circulation policies of each
  • Collect and log
    statistics
  • Enforce library policies and refer issues to professional library
    staff as necessary
  • Responsible for working shifts as assigned or arranging for
    a substitute
  • Participate in initial and ongoing training on library resources,
    policies, personnel and procedures
  • Complete tasks assigned by Access Services
    Supervisors, Access Services Manager & Library Director.

Required Qualifications

Must Be:

  • Friendly and comfortable
    dealing with the general public.
  • Reliable and adhere to the posted
    schedule.
  • Team and task-oriented.
  • Self-motivated and able to
    multitask.

Must be able to push loaded book carts in excess of 100 lbs. Must be able to pick up
50 lbs. Must be able to stand, reach, step up, step down.

Additional Information:

We accept students regardless of their Federal Work Study status. Applicants who are willing to work 10-15 hours/wk and are
willing to cover shifts when available.

Scheduled Hours:

Applicants must be
willing to work at least one late evening until 11pm and on weekends.

  • Monday -
    Thursday 7:30am - 12:00am
  • Friday: 7:30am - 7:00pm
  • Saturday: 9:00am - 7:00pm
  • Sunday 1:00pm - 12:00am

  
Required EducationMust be enrolled as a student at Belmont University.
Preference given to students who have completed at least one year of coursework at Belmont.  
  
Required ExperienceLibrary/Customer service experience preferred.
