Granby Elementary School is seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and student-centered Special Education Teacher to join our team. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs and committed to building inclusive environments where all children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

This position offers the opportunity to work within a supportive elementary setting alongside classroom teachers, interventionists, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and administration to ensure students receive the services and support needed to access grade-level curriculum and meet their individualized goals.


Job Summary


The Special Education Teacher is responsible for case management, specialized instruction, and supporting students with disabilities in both inclusive and small-group settings. This position includes direct service delivery, IEP development and management, progress monitoring, family communication, and collaboration with general education teachers and support staff.


Granby Elementary utilizes a collaborative service delivery model, including push-in support, pull-out/resource instruction, and consultation, depending on student needs.


Primary Responsibilities


Student Support & Instruction



  • Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in individual, small group, and/or inclusive classroom settings

  • Support students in accessing grade-level curriculum through accommodations, modifications, scaffolds, and differentiated instruction

  • Develop and implement lessons aligned to Colorado Academic Standards and individual student goals

  • Use evidence-based instructional practices, including structured literacy and intervention strategies as appropriate

  • Support student growth in academics, executive functioning, self-regulation, behavior, social skills, and independence


IEP Case Management & Compliance



  • Develop, write, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and state guidelines

  • Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings, annual reviews, reevaluations, and family conferences

  • Maintain accurate and timely special education documentation, progress reports, and compliance timelines

  • Conduct progress monitoring regularly and use data to inform instructional decisions

  • Collaborate with the Special Education Director and related service providers to ensure compliance and high-quality services


Collaboration & Teaming



  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to support inclusion and student success

  • Partner with interventionists, school psychologist, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, counselors, and administration

  • Assign and support paraprofessionals in a proactive, respectful, and organized manner

  • Participate in MTSS/problem-solving teams and building data discussions


Family & Community Partnerships



  • Build strong relationships with families through regular communication and collaborative problem-solving

  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with students, staff, families, and community members

  • Support transitions for students entering, exiting, or changing service levels


Classroom & Learning Environment



  • Create a safe, structured, and engaging environment conducive to learning

  • Establish clear routines, expectations, and systems that support student success

  • Utilize a variety of instructional techniques, materials, technology, and assessment tools


Qualifications



  • Valid Colorado teaching license with Special Education endorsement required and/or willing to seek an endorsement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s preferred)

  • Knowledge of special education law, IEP development, and compliance processes

  • Experience with elementary-aged students preferred

  • Knowledge of structured literacy, intervention systems, and progress monitoring preferred

  • Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and time management skills
