JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the Recreation Manager for REACH & REACH Coordinator; plan, organize, lead, participate, supervise, and implement REACH programs.
Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
- High school graduate. Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in education, youth services, recreation, or working toward a degree in these areas.
- Experience in leading youth activities. Preference will be given to those with childcare experience.
- First aid and CPR certified.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to plan, organizes, and leads REACH activities.
- Ability to tactfully discuss child’s behaviors with child and parents as needed.
- An understanding of the principles of customer service and how they relate to children and parents.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively control participants.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise REACH activities. Supervision includes watching, monitoring, and controlling child’s behavior and interactions.
- Organize REACH activities. Organization includes proposing planned activities as well as implementing and evaluating age-appropriate activities.
- Teach sport specific skills (e.g. instruct on how to hit a golf ball, how to throw a Frisbee, etc.)
- Demonstrate and facilitate production of craft projects.
- Submit activity outlines.
- Collect and store child’s belongings in assigned areas.
- Officiate various sports games.
- Communicate with Recreation Manager and other staff members. Communicating includes participating in all training and staff meetings and voicing opinions and ideas.
- Conduct oneself as a leader and role model for children.
- Uphold Bolingbrook Park District policies and procedures.
- Provide and maintain a safe environment.
- Serve in a professional and courteous manner with the highest regard to the customer.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
- Abide by the Bolingbrook Park District dress code for your area
- Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District’s safety program.
- Work as a team player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments

- Seeing: To observe children
- Walking: To supervise children and leading activities
- Sitting: To supervise children and leading activities
- Lifting: To move equipment and supplies and to set up and take down for REACH activities
- Reaching: To move supplies and equipment and to put them away
- Pulling: To move supplies and equipment and to put them away
- Pushing: To move supplies and equipment and to put them away
- Crouching: To lead activities, pick up supplies or garbage, and look under equipment
- Writing: To complete required reports, lessons plans, and communicate with REACH Coordinator
COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS
Must have the ability to plan, organize, lead, and evaluate REACH activities. Ability to relate to others in a professional manner.
FSLA
This is a Part Time Hourly - Non-Exempt position
HOURS
REACH operates Monday-Friday, before and after school hours:
• Before School is from 6:30am to 9:00am
• After School is from 3:00pm to 6:00pm
• Early release days (this year only). Would need to be available starting at 1:45pm
*Hours scheduled will be set by the School Age Program Manager
