Position Summary
Under minimal supervision, participates in a wide variety of skilled duties focusing on preventative and corrective maintenance involved in the installation, maintenance, repair and servicing of heavy equipment mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, equipment and machinery used in the operation of the District’s Regional Disposal Facility (Landfill Operations) ; and performs related duties as assigned. This position performs skilled maintenance work in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of heavy equipment such as backhoes, tractors, bulldozers, landfill compactors, articulated dump trucks, motor graders, tippers, transfer station tampers, etc.
Job Responsibilities
- Monitors and performs routine preventive maintenance and repair to District machinery and equipment.
- Performs advanced diagnostics and repairs on equipment as backhoes, tractors, bulldozers, landfill compactors, articulated dump trucks, motor graders, tipper, etc.
- May be required to perform rough plumbing and welding.
- Performs additional mechanical duties as required.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Must possess 5 years of experience with mechanics, plumbing, welding, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems.
- Thorough knowledge of operation and repairs to mechanical equipment.
- Maintains a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must have the ability to read operation and maintenance manuals, schematics, blueprints, and safety data sheets.
- Must have the ability to comprehend, carry out, and administer written and oral instruction.
- Must possess 5 years of experience with mechanics, plumbing, welding, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems.
- Thorough knowledge of operation and repairs to mechanical equipment.
- Must be able to perform formal and informal maintenance training as required.
- Must possess the ability to make decisions and exercise good judgment.
- Must possess the ability to use and interpret a computer diagnostic program for heavy equipment.
- Experience in the field of heavy equipment maintenance and repair, passenger vehicle repair and tractor trailer repair, including mechanical and heavy equipment operation.
Environmental and Physical Working Conditions
Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.
This position requires continuous physical exertion often of a strenuous nature. Lifts or pulls/pushes up to 50 pounds on a daily basis in order to repair and service equipment while using various hand tools and equipment. Working conditions include exposure to weather, odor, noise, gases and dust. Hand and power tools including impact wrenches, drill press and lathe, welding equipment, pickup truck, service truck, emergency lighting equipment and safety equipment.
