Payroll Tax Specialist

The Payroll Tax Specialist is responsible for managing and ensuring accurate, compliant payroll tax processing across 10 US-based component companies. This role serves as the primary liaison between the organization and all applicable tax agencies, as well as UKG Tax & Payment Services. The key duty of this role is ensuring timely tax filings, payments, issue resolution, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local tax agencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage end-to-end payroll tax compliance for multiple component companies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the organization and UKG Tax & Payment Services, as well as all Tax Agencies.
  • Oversee payroll tax filings and payments (federal, state, and local), including but not limited to income tax, unemployment tax, and local jurisdiction requirements.
  • Monitor and reconcile payroll tax liabilities, filings, and payments processed through UKG.
  • Research, resolve, and respond to payroll tax notices, audits, discrepancies, and agency inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with changing payroll tax laws and regulations across all applicable jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate tax setup and maintenance for new entities, jurisdictions, or changes in tax status.
  • Partner closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, and external agencies to ensure data accuracy and process alignment.
  • Maintain documentation, controls, and audit-ready records related to payroll tax processes.
  • Support tax audit and agency dispute resolution processes.
  • Identify process improvements and support system enhancements related to payroll tax operations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor�s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of payroll tax experience, preferably in a multi-entity or complex payroll environment.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS and Payroll systems, including their tax and payment services
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Experience working directly with tax agencies and resolving payroll tax issues.
  • High attention to detail with strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across several component companies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal and external partners.
