    REQUIREMENTS:

    1. High school or higher education degree, preferably in Nutrition or Food Service
    2. Experience in Food Service including quantity and batch cooking
    3. Must be physically capable of performing duties that include the ability to walk, bend, and stand for long periods of time.
    4. Lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
    5. The ability to work with a variety of food service and cleaning related products.  ServSafe Certification preferred, but will offer certification upon hire.

     
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
     
    The cook is responsible for the daily preparation and service of meals/snacks offered at each school site:
     

    1. Plan for, prepare and serve breakfast, lunch and snack meals according to the daily menus and as outlined by the USDA for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
    2. Follow component and portion guidelines as outlined by the NSLP.
    3. Supervise and assist with cleaning and sanitizing of all kitchen/dish room areas and School Nutrition equipment.
    4. Complete all necessary reporting documents including but not limited to production records and temperature records as required by the NSLP guidelines.
    5. Proficiency in use and safe of operation and cleaning of all kitchen equipment.
    6. Follow sanitation/safety guidelines for the kitchen/dish room set by the Salem Health Department and NSLP guidelines, to ensure satisfactory health inspections.
    7. Assigns various duties as necessary to School Nutrition staff.
    8. Proficiency in computer use, POS experience a plus.
    9. Ability to learn and work within the School Nutrition software including recording of sales, reporting, menus, etc.
    10. Other duties as may be assigned.


     
    2025-2026 HOURLY SALARY:  Starting at $17.17 or more depending on experience
