JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Substitute Paraprofessional
RATE: Based on PSBA Annual Pay Schedule
REPORT TO: Building Principals/ Substitute Coordinator
JOB GOAL: To assist the teacher by working with individual students or small groups to help them to take full
advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• The following background clearances are required: Act 151, Act 34, Act 24, and IdentoGO FBI
clearance
• Experience working with children preferred, but not required
• Must have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
PERFORMANCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work as set up and assigned by the teacher
• Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills
initially introduced by the teacher
• Administers, scores, and records achievement and diagnostic tests as assigned by the teacher
• Checks notebooks and corrects papers and makeup work assigned by the teacher
• Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes as directed
• Helps students master the equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher
• Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction
• Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, field trips,
and when moving throughout the building
• Assists with lunch, snack, and clean-up routines
• Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up to date
• Collects and records the collection of money
• Helps students with their clothing
• Alerts the classroom teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
• Supports and promotes the district asset-building efforts in school and in the community

• Participates in in-service and training programs, as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, or hear. The
employee occasionally will sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and will
frequently repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion such as when typing. Employee will frequently interact
with students and other staff members. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The
employee may occasionally lift weights up to 25 pounds such as boxes of paper or push wheeled carts such as
mobile computer labs.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Hourly rate and work year to be established by the school
Board of Directors. Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s
policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
