POSITION SUMMARY
- The Hotel Operations Manager is the second-in-command of hotel operations, reporting directly to the General Manager and supporting them in all aspects of property performance at Faraway Martha’s Vineyard. This role serves as acting General Manager in the GM’s absence and oversees department heads across Rooms, Front Office, Guest Services, and Engineering & Maintenance.
- This is a hands-on, detail-driven leadership role overseeing Rooms, Front Office, Guest Services, Public Areas, Pool & Fitness, Outdoor Spaces, and Engineering & Maintenance, ensuring exceptional execution across operations, design, and guest experience.
- The role also requires strong financial awareness, including budget adherence, expense management, and creative, cost-conscious purchasing.
- Based in Edgartown, MA, this position requires flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays, particularly during peak season.

Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations, Brand & Guest Experience
- Support the General Manager in overseeing all hotel operations and ensuring alignment with company standards and business objectives
- Maintain full visibility across departments, ensuring seamless execution and communication
- Conduct routine property walkthroughs to ensure impeccable cleanliness, maintenance, and presentation across all spaces
- Uphold Faraway brand standards with a focus on design integrity, ambiance, rituals, and experiential hospitality
- Ensure all guest-facing environments (rooms, public spaces, outdoor areas) reflect the intended look, feel, and atmosphere
- Oversee room inspections and quality control, maintaining consistently high quality standards
- Lead Front Desk and Guest Services operations, ensuring warm, personalized, and anticipatory service
- Handle guest concerns and VIP interactions with professionalism and urgency
Facilities, Inventory & Financial Discipline
- Partner with Engineering & Maintenance to ensure full functionality, safety, and aesthetic integrity
- Support preventative maintenance and timely resolution of issues
- Oversee inventory, OS&E, and procurement across departments, ensuring proper par levels and organization
- Monitor expenses and support adherence to budgets and financial targets
- Apply a creative, cost-conscious approach to purchasing without compromising quality
- Conduct regular audits to ensure inventory accuracy and operational readiness
F&B, Sales & Events Collaboration
- Support Food & Beverage operations as needed to ensure a cohesive guest experience
- Partner with Sales & Events teams on group business, activations, and event execution
- Ensure all outlets and events align with brand standards and operational readiness
Team Leadership & Execution
- Support hiring, training, and development across departments
- Foster a positive, accountable, and engaging culture
- Enforce uniform, grooming, and presentation standards
- Lead by example with a strong, hands-on presence
- Execute SOPs, initiatives, and systems, including effective use of the hotel tech stack
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve operations and guest experience
Scheduling, Coverage & Travel
- Ensure daily proper staffing coverage based on occupancy and seasonality
- Extended hours typical, particularly during peak season, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Schedule may include up to 6 days per week during high season
- Travel as needed to support other properties within the portfolio
REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE
- 3–5+ years of hotel operations experience, preferably in boutique, lifestyle, or luxury hospitality, with prior supervisory or assistant manager experience
- Experience overseeing various departments (Rooms, Front Office, Facilities, Guest Services)
- General understanding of hotel systems, service standards, and workflows
- Experience with budget awareness, expense control, and inventory management
- Proven ability to lead in a hands-on, fast-paced environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Active, on-property role requiring frequent movement
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, reach, and climb stairs throughout a shift, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation
- A combination of administrative and operational responsibilities
- Schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary range: $65,000 to $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience
