Systems Engineer II
Job Summary:
Performs systems engineering activities, which may include development of systems and requirements, validation of requirements, and verification of implementation for certification and product assurance. Perform other engineering activities for advanced concept projects and integration of products into customer architectures. Responsible for systems engineering, support, and integration activities. Oversee coordination of certification activities during the integration phase within the customer architecture. Responsible for performing broad engineering assignments starting with creating requirements through all stages of certification.
Job Responsibilities:
- Integration and test of avionic systems into aircraft programs. Perform analysis of complex requirements into subsystem architectures, hardware and software designs and interface specifications.
- Provide liaison activities for integration and support into customer architectures.
- Coordinate and perform subsystem integration, testing (lab, ground and flight) and certification of aircraft avionic systems.
- Provide engineering and technical support in all certification activities from Technical Standard Order (TSO) through platform Type Certification (TC) or Supplemental Type Certification (STC).
- Manage requirements and provide evidence of requirement verification and validation.
- Identify and resolve system integration issues discovered during test activities.
- Manage communication supplier activities that include but are not limited to requirement definition and validation, documentation review and processing, design analysis, qualification testing, and certification coordination.
- Ensure that avionic solutions are within Engineering and Manufacturing scope, or determine an alternate method to meet product line requirements.
- Become a subject matter expert in avionic system qualification, physical and functional integration and installation design.
- Consistently provide feedback, ideas and solutions for decreasing time to market and improving the product integration process.
- Continuously identify, measure, follow, and improve processes associated with product line integration.
- Maintain the highest ethical standards and live by Howell ethics and business conduct policies.
- Some travel is required.
- Performs additional duties as required.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Elecyrical, Systems or other related engineering disciplines.
- Experienced with working within the DOD acquisition process to orchestrate the design, development, and test of aviation systems and components. Capable of project feasibility and trade analyses to develop, test and maintain system requirements, test plans, and documentation of aircraft systems. Able to collaborate with multidisciplined engineering teammates to design and develop subsystems and components. Familiar with Validation and Verification methods.
- Experience with Safety Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, and associated industry standards such as: MIL-STD-882E, MIL-STED-1629A, IEC-60812, AS13004, DO-178C, DO-160, DO-254 and validation/verification.
- Manage project schedules, perform risk identification and mitigation, earned value management. Familiar with the INC”OSE Systems Engineering Handbook.
- Broad technical background in complex hardware and software integration
- General knowledge of aircraft and system level safety methods.
- Strong verbal and customer relations skills. Ability to work with all levels of internal and external management, engineering, manufacturing, technical publications, and field engineering departments.
- Good organization skills.
- Ability to multi-task on many product lines and set priorities.
