Charge Nurse (RN) - Labor & Delivery (LDRP) - FT Days

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Critical Care Charge Nurses (ED & ICU) assist in the stabilization of critical patients outside of their primary focus area and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team assigned as primary caregivers.
  • Demonstrates expertise in clinical judgment and decision-making.
  • Maintains sound clinical knowledge based on current standards of practice for area of accountability.
  • Promotes a collaborative multidisciplinary plan of care
  • Leads or provides input for department meetings/committees
  • Role models and mentors staff for improved performance
  • Detects patient/family concerns, legal/ethical issues through rounding
  • Demonstrates effective multi-tasking when dealing with difficult aspects of patient care
  • Collaborates with medical staff to promote progressive patient care and discharge planning
  • Promotes unit based teambuilding activities
  • Promotes and role models a positive attitude and accountability to staff
  • Participates in development of policies, procedures, and practice standards
  • Monitors and investigates unit risk events
  • Encourages staff involvement in shared governance
  • Provides guidance and professional support to nurses who provide care to patients in an assigned unit.
  • Develops schedules, assigns patients, and completes other staffing duties.
  • Provides training to nurses, assesses individual performance, and makes certain that accreditation standards are meet.
  • Directs the flow of patients and supports nurses in developing specialized care plans as needed.
  • Follows through with all applicable compliance and quality expectations and may assist with budgeting.
  • Serves a population newborn through geriatric.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduate of nursing program.
  • Experience as a practicing RN.

Required License/Certifications/Registrations

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas.
  • Current BLS card within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first. Acceptable courses are American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education and Experience

  • BSN is strongly preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations

  • none

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Completion of specific unit based and general hospital competencies.
  • Ability to apply the basic principles of nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Keyboarding skills and basic computer skills.
  • Multi-tasking and prioritization skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium Work: Occasionally exerting up to 50 lbs - constantly exerting up to 10 lbs. 26-50% of the day may be standing or walking.
