Position Summary:
The responsibility of an IHC Technologist II is to perform routine and specialized IHC staining procedures on tissue specimens. This involves preparing slides from paraffin-embedded tissue sections, operating and troubleshooting IHC instruments as well as ensuring quality control throughout the staining process. Some tasks performed by this position require the technician to be eligible for high complexity testing. Environmental hazards such as formalin, communicable disease, fresh human tissue, etc. are present in the workplace. The IHC Tech must adhere to strict HIPAA standards as well as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. This position can be considered for Lead responsibilities.
Essential Duties:
IHC Technologist may perform any of the following duties or groups of duties:
- Performs routine and specialized IHC testing using automated staining instruments and manual techniques.
- Performs daily quality control checks on stained IHC slides.
- Ensures quality control by validating reagents, monitoring staining quality, and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Maintains and performs maintenance on microtomes, IHC stainers, coverslippers, etc.
- Accurately labels all IHC reagents with appropriate hazardous warning labels in accordance with department guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Cuts, files, and inventories controls and control blocks.
- Pulls blocks, control slides, and paperwork for IHC orders.
- Orders, inventories and stores reagents and supplies.
- Labels slides and distributes cases to pathologists.
- Makes antibodies.
- Other duties as assigned.
