Job Title:             Systems Administrator      


                               


 


Reports to:         Technology Coordinator                                     


Dept./School:     Technology


 


Exemption Status/Test: Exempt



Primary Purpose:


Evaluates, implements, and maintains the GISD enterprise, through domain and system administration, email management, network security and services, and server monitoring and security protection.


 


Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information
Systems, or related field, and/or five years related network system administration experience.



Experience in MS Exchange, MS Internet Information Server, MS System Management Software
required.


 


Experience with various enterprise deployment and familiarity with LAN/WAN
communication protocols, hardware standards and project management experience preferred.


 


 


Special Knowledge/Skills:


 


Knowledge of LAN, LWAN, and WAN network design and installation


Knowledge of network hardware and software applications including network servers, printers, and other equipment


Ability to work with multiple operating systems and network protocols


Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems


Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


 



Knowledge of firewall configuration, network security concepts, and VPN technologies
Familiarity with server operating systems (Windows, Linux) and virtualization (VMware vSphere)
Understanding of system performance monitoring, backup/recovery procedures
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Performs other duties as assigned.


 


 


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


Include the following but are not limited to:


 



  1. Manage and maintain Active Directory, including user/group creation, security permissions, group policies, and troubleshooting.

  2. Administer Office 365 environment, including OneDrive, Exchange Online, and other services.

  3. Configure and maintain Proofpoint email security solution for spam filtering and threat protection.

  4. Manage firewall rules and policies, ensuring proper network security and access controls.

  5. Perform server administration tasks like updates, patches, backups, and monitoring system health.

  6. Maintain VMware virtualization environment, including vSphere, vCenter, and related components.

  7. Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues across systems and applications.

  8. Automate routine system administration tasks and processes.

  9. Implement and enforce security policies, access controls, and authentication measures.

  10. Awareness of authentication services and Single Sign-On (SSO), SAML, and/or OAuth services is advantageous.

  11. Good communication skills for effective collaboration with colleagues and departments, and the ability to

  12. Communicate goals and achievements to management and vendors.

  13. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  14. Manage, maintain, and review documentation

  15. Collaborate with other technical staff and business units

  16. Support end users when necessary

  17. Research, plan, install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade operating systems and applications

  18. Assist with capacity planning, disaster recovery, and security

  19. Ability to recognize patterns and trends and to develop solutions to resolve and prevent reoccurring issues

  20. Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel

Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations; standard office equipment including personal computers and peripherals


Posture: Prolonged sitting; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting


Motion: Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching; may climb ladders


Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over)


Environment: Work is performed in an office environment; frequent on-call and after-hours work; occasional districtwide travel; may be required to be on-call 24 hours a day.


Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; emotional control under stress
