Position Title: K-12 Instructional Coach
Department: Learning, Technology& Innovation
Supervisor: Assistant Director/Coordinator
Summary of Function
The K-12 Instructional Coach, having both content and instructional expertise, will work as a
colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. The
Instructional Coach will focus on individual or group professional support that will expand and
refine teachers’ understanding and practices around researched-based effective instruction. In
order to meet this purpose, the Instructional Coach will provide a variety of personalized, 1:1,
small group, and larger staff-wide support, based on the goals and identified needs of the
district, site and teacher.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
● AZ Department of Education Certification required; National Board Certification
preferred
● Bachelor's Degree in Education - required; Master’s preferred
● Understanding of Arizona’s Academic Standards, Professional Teaching Standards, and
the Standards for Professional Learning - required
● Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement, English as a Second Language (ESL) or
Bilingual endorsement is required within one year of hire
● Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
● Five (5) years successful experience in teaching
● Elementary teaching and/or instructional leadership experience preferred
● Prior experience with coaching or mentoring teachers, preferred
● Familiarity with Optimal Learning Environment frameworks or similar models
Duties and responsibilities
1. Support teachers to design, implement, and refine high-impact instructional strategies.

2. Engage in non-evaluative coaching cycles involving pre-planning, observation, and
reflection to help teachers meet specific professional goals centered on instructional
best practices.
3. Assist grade-level and departmental teams with examination and analysis of formative
and summative assessment data to identify learning concerns for individual students
and groups of students. Provides coaching around instructional support that is
responsive to the identified needs of students.
4. Co-plan and assist in facilitation of professional development on district initiatives, such
as teacher clarity, optimal learning environments, universal design for learning, or
educational technology.
5. Support new teachers through mentoring and onboarding processes.
6. Collaborate with program coordinators regarding the design, implementation, and
assessment of the FUSD Instructional Coaching Program in order to align priorities,
ensuring consistency, cohesion, and fidelity of instructional practices across all grade
levels, all school sites, and departments.
7. Work closely with program coordinators to align instructional practices with school
improvement plans.
8. Serve as a liaison between district leadership and school staff.
9. Support the professional development needs of teachers and instructional staff, with a
primary focus on enhancing student achievement. Develop and implement a variety of
active, research-based teaching and learning strategies to assist teachers in improving
student outcomes and fostering academic success.
10. Allocate at least two hours of weekly support per beginning teacher. This requirement
may be met through a combination of collaborative planning, classroom observation,
resource development, and co-teaching sessions.
11. Implement research-based content pedagogy and instructional strategies.
12. Listen with compassion and empathy that creates an environment of trust.
13. Communicate openly, honestly, and sensitively.
14. Can clearly explain thinking and decision-making regarding classroom practices
15. Support teachers with the district’s implementation of the Teacher Evaluation System.
16. Perform other job related duties as assigned.
17. Maintain professional growth through graduate and/or staff development courses,
professional organizations, seminars, and/or professional literature.
18. Attend all required mentor training and instructional coach professional learning
communities.

Working Conditions

● Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion and movement are
required to perform aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform
physically demanding tasks.
● Work involves sitting and moving for extended periods of time, and requires moving
from one location to another, reaching, bending, holding, and grasping objects.
● Verbal communication ability is required.
● Uses office equipment which includes but is not limited to: computers, video projectors,
mobile devices, and office or instructional equipment. FUSD recognizes the
ever-changing development of technology but expects all staff to keep abreast of
changing technology opportunities and use tools and devices provided to them.
