Job Description: Drop Bury Technician (Fiber & Coax)

Department: Field Operations

Reports To: Field Supervisor

Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Service Area / Region

Job Summary

The Drop Bury Technician is responsible for the installation, burial, and restoration of fiber and coaxial service drops from the network to residential and light commercial customer premises. This role performs hand trenching, mechanical trenching, vibratory plowing, and pneumatic boring, and completes full site restoration in accordance with company standards and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

    Install buried fiber and coax service drops from pedestals, handholes, or taps to customer demarcation points.

    Perform excavation using hand trenching, walk-behind trenchers, vibratory plows, and/or pneumatic boring equipment.

    Install conduit, innerduct, tracer wire, warning tape, and cable to required depth and specifications.

    Complete full restoration including backfilling, tamping, seeding, straw placement, grading, and basic concrete/asphalt patching.

    Maintain safe excavation practices and work around marked underground utilities.

    Document completed work with photos, measurements, and job notes.

    Communicate professionally with customers and supervisors.

    Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

Qualifications

    High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience

    Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

    Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

    Ability to lift 50–75 lbs and perform physical labor

    OSHA 10 certification preferred (can be obtained during training)

    Previous telecom, excavation, or construction experience preferred
