GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision of the Recreation Facility Manager, the Program Specialist creates, facilitates, supervises and evaluates quality programming for all members of the community. The Program Specialist performs a variety of manual, clerical, and routine leadership functions pertaining to program implementation, customer service, and facility maintenance. Other tasks include attending evening/weekend special events and programs, participating in community activities, and working with civic school groups.
The successful candidate will possess knowledge, skills and abilities, including principles and techniques of planning, administering, and coordinating a variety of recreational programs and activities. Must possess very good communication skills, great people skills, and be willing to take direction.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
• Provides and assists with the delivery and development of recreation programs; programs include adult and children’s programs, camps, recreation and skills classes, special events, community activities, sports programs and other activities. Provides information to the public concerning
programs, activities, and special events.
• Monitors participation in recreation programs and events, make corrections as needed under guidance from supervisor and policy, keeps supervisor informed of program specifics and needs.
• Surveys patrons and evaluates programs to determine public needs and how to increase program efficiency and effectiveness; receives patron complaints and suggestions and responds appropriately and professionally.
• Communicates with marketing staff regarding promotional needs for programs.
• Assists in the preparation of equipment and venues for daily use, activities/programs and events; maintains facility cleanliness on a daily basis; communicates effectively with general public, community resource agencies, and other organizations in order to conduct program activities; signs out & in keys & other equipment; assists with special projects and special events as directed and when required by department leadership.
• Accepts payments and schedules reservations for City rental properties/facilities; Accepts program registration paperwork; receives funds for registration and appropriately compiles registration and revenue paperwork according to direction and City policy.
• Ensures all Yukon Parks and Recreation facilities are clean and safe at all times.
• Adheres to departmental policies and procedures for efficient and safe operations.
• Ability to utilize a variety of office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, televisions, monitors, and other small, miscellaneous office equipment.
• Enforces rules, regulations and safety precautions at recreation facilities and outdoor venues; maintains discipline, monitors behavior, resolve issues, monitors program activities, and assists participants in recreation activities and special programs under guidance from supervisor and
policy. Responds appropriately to injuries or other emergencies in the workplace.
• Reports and resolves complaints, requests, safety concerns, security issues, and illegal activities.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• 18 years of age or older
• Valid driver's license.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays, is required to meet business needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate degree with coursework in recreation, leisure studies, or related field
• Applicable experience in recreation program administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Direct experience with creating and facilitating recreational programming within a municipal setting.

PHYSICAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Must be in good physical condition
• Good vision to be able to watch for emergency situations in and around recreation facilities and programming areas
• Work in variety of weather conditions including heat, rain, cold, and wind
• Exposure to allergy causing agents
• Subject to working in a confined area near others
• Ability to withstand heat, wind, and direct sunlight for long periods of time
• Subject to sitting, standing, walking, or using a telephone for extended periods of time
• Exposed to intermittent or continued loud and insistent noises
• Exposed to slippery and uneven surfaces
• Must have strength to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing 25 pounds or more
• Mobility to frequently move one's body from place to place
• Hearing and speech to communicate clearly and distinctly in English, by telephone and in person, within the confinement of a semi-noisy environment
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Must possess a valid Oklahoma State Driver License
• Must pass post offer drug screen and post offer background tests, if 18 or older
• Must be able to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays
