A Special Education Teacher Registered Apprenticeship offers a pathway to becoming a certified special education teacher, particularly for paraprofessionals and other individuals with limited teaching experienceThis "earn while you learn" model combines paid work, supplemental education, and on-the-job training. It addresses teacher shortages, provides a sustainable workforce, and helps schools expand staffing flexibility.

APPRENTICE WAGE SCHEDULE
Apprentices shall be paid a progressively increasing schedule of wages based on either a
percentage or a dollar amount of the current hourly journeyworker (lead/master teacher)
wage rate, which is: $ 25.00.
3-Year Term:
1st semester (Entry/probationary): $15/hr
2nd semester: $15.50 /hr
2nd year: $16 /hr
3rd year: $17 /hr
4th year: $18 /hr



Completion of program and placement into a teacher position: $ 25 /hr
Note: Upon completion of the Apprenticeship Program, individuals will be available for a
teaching position. If no teaching position is available at the time the individual completes the
program, they will stay in an instructional support position until the next available opening.


 


Eligibility Requirements:



Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree.
Candidates must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, cumulative or based on the candidate’s
last 60 academic credits.
Must be eligible for employment as a special education paraprofessional,
instructional aide, or similar role within the school district participating as
Employer, as determined by existing policies of the Employer.
Candidates must have three years of prior experience as a paraprofessional or a
similar position, or equivalent past experience as approved by ADE process.
