Western Michigan University Homer Stryker, MD, School of Medicine is hiring an On-Call Occupational Health and Infection Control Nurse. Performs a variety of professional duties are completed to aid in the development and delivery of occupational health, infection control and worker’s compensation to WMed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:  

  • Develops, maintains and audits employee/student health records to ensure completeness, continuity of care and employee/student confidentiality.
  • Utilizes the  EPIC electronic medical record for registration, orders, notes and billing.
  • Utilizes Immuware Occupational Health software.
  • Conducts daily office appointments.
  • Administers employee/student immunizations and maintains related recordkeeping including all MICR documentation and records releases.
  • Processes worker’s compensation claims and provides case management in coordination with the worker’s compensation carrier.
  • Phone triage of employees or students for removal and return to work.
  • Provides individual counseling sessions to employees/students regarding exposures, immunizations and other occupational health items as necessary.
  • Responsible for conducting orientation for new employees, students, contractors and volunteers.
  • Conducts annual flu clinics, mask fit testing and TB testing for all departments.
  • Responsible for review and assessment of all visiting learner immunization records prior to attending WMed.
  • Responsible for annual training, and respirator medical forms, for all powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) users.
  • Responsible for maintenance and operation of AED’s on all three floors of the Linda Richards building and on the concourse level of the clinic building.
  • Provides recommendations to management regarding compliance with government regulations, The Joint Commission standards, OSHA, Higher Learning Commission, organization policies, standard operation procedures and applicable Codes of Ethics.
  • Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • Associates degree in Nursing (RN)
  • 2 years’ experience as an RN.

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS: 

  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Michigan. 
  • TB certification per Kalamazoo County Health Department preferred or must receive within six months of hire. 
  • BLS certification.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in using electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Proficient in using Microsoft office.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate automated standard office equipment (multi-line phone system, copier/fax, and shredder).
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • High degree of integrity to maintain absolute confidentiality in all matters related to occupational health.
  • Knowledge and ability to use e-mail messaging, appointment scheduling and the calendar.
  • Participates in continuing education to maintain competence of occupational health and safety, including legal regulations.
  • Ability to accept and apply feedback.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow.
  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
