EL Paraprofessional
Reports to: Language Academy Coordinator
Length of Contract: Nine Months; 7 hours per day
Salary Lane: Paraprofessional Level II
Responsibilities:
The English Language Learner paraprofessional is responsible for providing direct instructional support as identified,
including providing support to staff.
Requirements:
● Illinois state licensure (TASN) or paraprofessional licensure
● High degree of interpersonal relations and communication skills
● Evidence of good organizational skills
● Evidence of good judgment, trustworthiness, flexibility, and emotional maturity
● Demonstrates leadership qualities and is self-directed
● Spanish skills are highly desired
Specific Duties:
● Exhibit professionalism and commitment through punctuality and attendance
● Observe and follow District 155 policies and procedures
● Provide instructional support to the Language Academy teacher
● Provide further reinforcement of skills as prescribed by the Language Academy teacher
● Reinforce vocabulary words covered by the Title I teacher and assist in skills that aid in understanding the
language concepts as prescribed by the Language Academy teacher
● Tabulate results of student assessments and file records for the Language Academy teacher; assist in typing
progress reports, and sending the reports to parents
● Supervise students as they complete lessons delivered by the Language Academy teacher as the Language
Academy teacher (within the same classroom) meets individually with specific Language Academy students
● Assist the Language Academy teacher in the student selection process by tabulating results, putting together
parent permission slips, compacts, and other information to send home for identified students
● Assist with typing materials and making preparations for the annual review meeting, administer staff and parent
surveys for the meeting, participate in the meeting, and possibly communicate with parents regarding its results
● Maintain files on communication with teachers
● Assist the Language Academy teacher with strategies for maintaining orderly classroom behavior on an individual
and group basis
● Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect Language Academy students, equipment, materials,
and facilities
● Establish and maintain positive communications and relations with staff
● Assist the Language Academy teacher in upholding and enforcing school and district rules and policies.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Language Academy teacher/Language Academy Coordinator/assistant
principal of student services and director of multilingual services and family engagement
● Maintain confidentiality of all student information
● Assist with school-to-home communication as directed by the school leadership team or teachers relating to
attendance, grades, discipline, etc.
● Supervise Language Academy students and/or non-Language Academy students as needed and assigned by the
school leadership team

● Supervise students on late-start Mondays before classes begin as assigned by the school leadership team
Essential Functions of the Job:
● Continuously requires the ability to sit, talk, and understand the speech of another person
● Occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with
hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
● Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
● Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the
ability to adjust focus
