Position Overview:

St. Catherine of Siena School is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join our team. This multifaceted role includes teaching middle school math, providing math support for middle school students, and leading middle school electives. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to Catholic education, a love for teaching, and the flexibility to work with students across multiple grade levels.

Key Responsibilities:

Middle School Math Instruction (Grades 6-8)
Pre-Algebra

• Focus on building foundational skills needed for success in algebra. Topics include operations with integers and rational numbers, order of operations, expressions, basic equations, ratios and proportions, and introductory work with variables. Emphasis is placed on developing number sense, accuracy, and confidence in problem-solving.

7th Grade Algebra

• Develop and extend core algebraic concepts with increasing complexity.  Topics include systems of equations (graphing and algebraic methods), functions and function notation, slope and rate of change, and writing and analyzing linear equations. Students are introduced to exponents and exponential growth/decay, polynomials and factoring (introductory), and explore quadratic relationships conceptually. Emphasis is placed on multi-step problem solving, real-world applications, and explaining mathematical reasoning clearly.

8th Grade Algebra

• Build a strong foundation for high school algebra through rigorous exploration of linear and nonlinear relationships. Topics include systems of equations (graphing and algebraic methods), functions and function notation, slope and rate of change, and writing and analyzing linear equations. Students are introduced to exponents and exponential growth/decay, polynomials and factoring (introductory), and explore quadratic relationships conceptually. Emphasis is placed on multi-step problem solving, real-world applications, and explaining mathematical reasoning clearly.  

8th Grade Geometry

• Engage students in both conceptual and analytical geometry. Topics include transformations (translations, rotations, reflections, dilations), congruence and similarity, angle relationships, and triangle properties. Students explore the Pythagorean Theorem and its applications, volume and surface area of 3D figures, and coordinate geometry. Topics also include informal geometric proofs, parallel line theorems, and trigonometry (sine, cosine, tangent) with right triangles and circles (radians, arcs, chords). Instruction emphasizes precision, logical reasoning, and clear mathematical communication.  

Middle school elective courses,  based on school needs and candidate strengths

• Electives meet four times per week and include a mixed-grade cohort of 6th�8th grade students.  One session each week will function as an Advisory, focused on developing students' executive functioning and social-emotional skills.  The remaining sessions may be structured around an engaging elective topic (e.g., problem-solving, math enrichment, STEM activities, or other areas of interest), which can be pre-assigned or developed through candidate strengths and interests.

Qualifications:

• Required: Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field (Master's preferred).
• Required: Holds a Washington State teaching certificate or is in progress toward earning it.
• Preferred: Catholic with knowledge of Catholic doctrine and traditions.
• Required: Experience teaching middle school or high school.
• Strong background in elementary math instruction and intervention strategies.
• Ability to differentiate for a range of learning needs.
• Ability to create a welcoming, faith-filled learning environment.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

OTHER:

Salary: $34.00 - $52.00/hour. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills, and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
