Job Description

Description

The Plant Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of plant operations, including safety, quality, production efficiency, maintenance, and financial performance. This role drives operational excellence, ensures compliance with regulatory and customer standards, and builds a high-performing team to achieve strategic and operational goals.

 

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Performance

  • Lead day-to-day plant operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production.
  • Drive performance across key metrics including safety, quality, efficiency, labor utilization, waste, and cost control.
  • Analyze operational data and implement actions to meet or exceed budget and company objectives.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to support plant growth, capacity, and continuous improvement.

Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Ensure completion and accuracy of all safety training and documentation.
  • Address audit findings promptly and eliminate unsafe conditions.

Quality & Food Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all customer, regulatory, and food safety requirements.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance on audits, continuous improvement initiatives, and training.
  • Lead resolution of internal, customer, and supplier quality issues, including corrective actions and follow-up.

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Oversee maintenance operations, ensuring effective execution of preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensure proper utilization of the Maintenance Work Order System to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.

Production & Planning

  • Collaborate with production scheduling to meet customer demand and delivery timelines.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and inventory management to support production plans.

Financial Management

  • Manage plant budgets and approve expenditures with a focus on cost control and ROI.
  • Promote financial accountability across all departments.

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop salaried and hourly employees to build a strong talent pipeline.
  • Partner with HR on employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance work environment.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce waste.

Cross-Functional & External Collaboration

  • Partner with Engineering and other plant leaders to optimize operations and share best practices.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Engage with local communities, educational institutions, and government entities to support workforce development and plant initiatives.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10–12+ years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 6 years in a high-volume, fast-paced production setting.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and cost drivers.
  • Proven ability to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
