Primary Purpose:



Use a hydrogen-oxygen torch to heat 8250 tubing while using foot pedals to manipulate the glass on a Litton glass lathe.



 



 


     

 


































Key Responsibilities



Standards of Performance



Cut & clean tubing using diamond saw. Verify seals meet product specifications. Utilize & operate Helium Leak detector and Keyence measuring tool.



Tubing is cut and cleaned with precision, ensuring no burrs or contamination.


Seals are inspected and verified to meet all product specifications with zero tolerance for defects.


Operate helium leak checker and Keyence machines, following all SOPs and safety protocols.


Equipment is maintained in good working condition; issues are reported immediately.



Read & interpret technical drawings & written & verbal instructions



Technical drawings and instructions are interpreted accurately with minimal supervision.


Work is completed in alignment with specifications, tolerances, and timelines.


Clarifications are proactively sought when instructions are unclear.



Maintain stock levels of parts & notify supervisor of defects or shortages



Inventory is monitored daily; parts are restocked before reaching critical levels.


Defective parts or shortages are reported promptly and documented accurately.


Stock areas are kept organized and labelled for easy access and tracking.



Fabricate R&D prototypes & provide feedback



Prototypes are fabricated with attention to detail and adherence to design intent.


Constructive feedback is provided to engineering/R&D teams regarding functionality, feasibility, and improvements.


Collaboration with cross-functional teams is professional and solution-oriented.



Utilise best practice processes, techniques and continuous improvement methods as introduced



Best practices are consistently applied to all tasks.


Suggestions for process improvements are actively contributed during team meetings or reviews.


Participation in training and continuous improvement initiatives is proactive and engaged.



Other duties as assigned to assure departmental excellence and teamwork

Quality Compliance Rate


Definition: Percentage of tubing cuts and seals that meet product specifications on the first pass.


Measured By: Quality inspection reports, rework logs, and defect tracking.


 


Instruction Interpretation Accuracy


Definition: Number of tasks completed correctly based on technical drawings and instructions without rework or clarification.


Measured By: Supervisor review, peer feedback, and error reports.


 


Inventory Management Responsiveness


Definition: Time taken to identify and report part shortages or defects.


Measured By: Inventory logs, supervisor notifications, and downtime reports.


 


Prototype Fabrication & Feedback Contribution


Definition: Number of R&D prototypes fabricated and quality of feedback provided to engineering..


Measured By: R&D team feedback, prototype review sessions, and documentation of suggestions


 


Person Specification – Essential requirements unless stated


















Education / Qualifications:




  • 2 yrs off-hand or lamp/scientific glassblowing experience preferred, willing to train candidates with vocational training and/or artisan hand glass blowing experience

  • High School graduate or GED.

  • Read, write & communicate in English


 



Physical Skills/ Abilities:




  • Ability to do hand glassblowing operations

  • Read & interpret technical drawings & perform basic math

  • Excellent hand/eye coordination and hand/finger dexterity

  • Hold a 1-2 lb torch majority of shift & lift up to 10 lbs occasionally

  • Sit or stand majority of shift, regularly reach & occasionally stand, bend, stoop, push, & pull

Compensation


In accordance with California law, the expected salary for this full-time, benefited position is between $25/hr - $31/hr. The actual compensation will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience and other factors permitted by law
