Retail Director, Puget Sound
The Retail Director is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic direction of Olympia Coffee’s retail operations. This role oversees multiple cafe locations and ensures alignment with company goals, financial targets, and our mission to improve the quality of life for farmers, staff, and customers.
Reporting directly to the executive team, the Retail Director serves as a key leader within the organization driving operational excellence, developing high-performing teams, and building scalable systems that support sustainable growth. This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring a balance of big-picture thinking and day-to-day operational leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of cafe team leaders, fostering strong leadership skills and accountability at every level
- Create a culture of ownership, growth, and continuous improvement across all retail teams
- Build clear pathways for career progression and actively develop internal talent for future leadership roles
- Provide consistent coaching, performance feedback, and support to direct reports, ensuring alignment with company expectations and values
- Model strong, values-based leadership that promotes respect, inclusion, and high performance
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Develop and execute retail strategies that drive revenue growth, operational efficiency, and brand consistency
- Partner with executive leadership to set annual goals, budgets, and key performance indicators for retail operations
- Identify trends, opportunities, and risks within the business and proactively adjust strategies to meet evolving needs
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams across the company to align initiatives and maximize impact
- Lead new cafe openings, expansions, and operational improvements with a focus on scalability and sustainability
Operational Excellence
- Oversee all aspects of cafe operations, ensuring systems, processes, and standards are consistent, efficient, and aligned with company goals
- Build, refine, and maintain operational systems that support quality, consistency, and an exceptional customer experience
- Ensure all cafes deliver “every guest, every time” service through clear expectations, training, and accountability
- Maintain strong in-store execution of merchandising, product presentation, and brand standards
- Step into cafe team leader responsibilities when needed to support business continuity
- Champion a positive, inclusive workplace culture where employees feel supported and empowered
- Uphold and elevate Olympia Coffee’s brand through exceptional cafe environments and customer interactions
- Inspire teams to deepen coffee knowledge and product expertise, reinforcing Olympia Coffee’s commitment to quality
- Lead with enthusiasm and adaptability, especially during periods of change or competing priorities
Financial Performance & Accountability
- Own and drive sales performance and P&L outcomes across all retail locations
- Analyze financial reports and key metrics to identify opportunities for growth and cost optimization
- Partner with Accounting and HR to monitor payroll, labor efficiency, and overall expense management
- Ensure managers are equipped to understand and act on financial data to improve store-level performance
Staffing & Workforce Planning
- Partner with HR to recruit, hire, and retain high-quality team members across all cafes
- Ensure staffing levels and scheduling align with business demands, seasonality, and traffic patterns
- Support managers in building strong, flexible teams with a focus on customer service excellence
- Oversee onboarding and training systems in cafes to ensure consistency and effectiveness
Compliance & Risk Management
- Partner with HR to ensure compliance with all labor laws, company policies, and workplace standards
- Support and guide managers through employee relations, performance management, and disciplinary processes
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and legally compliant work environment across all locations
