    Job Title:                     Speech/Language Pathologist              
     
    Purpose:                      To diagnose and implement treatment of communication disorders that interfere with the student’s ability to achieve in the district’s educational program.  
     
    Responsible to:           Director RCSSC, Building Principals      
     
    Supervises:                  Paraeducators
     
    Qualifications:              Earned an MS or MA degree in communication disorders with emphasis in Speech/Language Pathology.  Licensed through KDHE
     
    Essential Functions:    Have the ability and knowledge to maintain a quality therapy program.
     
    Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
     
    General responsibilities:
     
    1.          Provide screening to identify speech/language handicapped children.
     
    2.         Provide thorough assessment and diagnosis of articulation, voice, and fluency and language impairments, including receptive, expressive and pragmatic skills.
     
    3.         Compile case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early developmental history, and environmental history are deemed appropriate.
     
    4.         Assist in proper referrals of individuals to outside agencies and specialists as appropriate.
     
    5.         Serve on diagnostic teams for purposes of identifying and recommending services and/or treatment of pupils with communication problems.
     
    6.         Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
     
    7.         Provide information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
     
    8.         Establish specific pupil instructional objectives with complement the objectives of the total school program.
     
    9.         Update objectives regularly, and redefine or modify the instructional procedures and materials as needed.
     
    10.        Conduct individual and/or small group therapy for speech and language students and determine the frequency and duration of sessions based on pupil need.
     
    11.        Serve as a resource to school personnel and parents in the development of a program for oral communication and speech improvement.
     
    12.        Provide inservice education; serve as a consultant to teachers on topics concerning speech improvement, and assist teachers in referring suspected speech/language impairments.
     
    13.        Maintain data and reporting systems to facilitate program planning management and evaluation of students and is responsible for case management, case selection, case termination and follow-up procedures.

    14.        Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
     
    15.        Be responsible for student Individual Educational Plan development and implementation.
     
    16.        Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
     
    17.        Maintain professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
     
    18.        Fulfill other assignments given by supervisors.
     
    19.        Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
     
    20.        Provide community education as a resource speaker as needed.
     
    21.        Willingness and flexibility to adopt new teaching strategies into their therapy.
     
     
    Term of Employment:              As per negotiated teacher agreement

    Evaluation:                               Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education Policy of Certified Personnel.
