OCCUPATION: DERRICK HAND
General Description of Occupation:
The duties of the Derrick Hand include performing tasks from an elevated position (tubing board). When not working on the tubing board, this position is responsible for operating the mud pump. The Derrick Hand will also assist in rigging-up or down, picking up or laying down drill pipe, acting as a Relief Rig Operator and other functions specified by the customer or well operator. All duties are to be performed according to standard operating procedures in order to maximize the safety of all personnel at the worksite and to efficiently perform the task.
Essential Functions of Job:
- Rigging-up and down: All elevated work associated with rigging-up or down.
- Drilling the well: All work performed from the tubing board (transferring drill pipe from the vertical racks to the elevator). For standing drill pipe, the Derrick Hand assists in lifting the drill pipe from the rack onto the work floor or vice versa. The Derrick Hand may need to work floors or operate the rig.
- Mud Pump: Must safely and effectively operate the mud pump on location which includes performing repair and maintenance on the pump.
