Overview:

Teaching Economics Conference Assistant will help to plan the Teaching Economics Conference which is the oldest teaching economics conference in the nation, addressing the interests of teachers of economics at all levels. The Conference Assistant will provide essential support for the planning, promotion, and execution of the Teaching Economics (TE) Conference. Expected hours: 4-10 hours/week (schedule negotiable, may increase closer to the conference date). More information can be found here. https://www.rmu.edu/academics/schools/sihss/tec



Responsibilities:

● Website and Digital Forms: Contact IT support (Veronica Burnsworth) to update the TE conference web page and registration/proposal forms once economics faculty determine relevant conference dates (e.g. submission and registration deadlines, conference date). Update the conference program page after the program details and meeting links are finalized. ● Email Marketing: Send the “Call for Presentations and Papers” email to potential participants. This includes sending email blasts in September, November, December (after external speakers are confirmed) and January. Send reminder emails for proposals and registrations. ● Proposal Management: Check the conference email ([email protected]) and notify faculty to review proposals upon submission, and send proposal acceptance/rejection notifications on a rolling basis. ● Coordination with Economics Faculty: Schedule organizational meetings with economics faculty; ask faculty for the meeting room links (including phone & PIN number) they create once the program is ready; organize all meeting information in a master spreadsheet for internal use and share the file with RMU IT team for conference webpage updates. ● Logistical Assistance: Provide general assistance to the conference and send instructions (mid-January/early February); put together digital packets for all attendees and presenters; contact RMU IT team and confirm technical support for the conference. ● Platform Testing: Test the conference platform 3-5 days before the event, and send email reminders to economics faculty (asking everyone to test their meeting links before the conference). ● Post-Conference Follow-up: Create an attendee contact list and send a follow-up email with links to conference recordings after the conference.



Minimum Qualifications:

Any currently enrolled student as an Undergraduate or Graduate is eligible. We are looking for someone with strong organizational and communication skills (written and verbal) and someone who is punctual and dependable. This position requires an ability to work independently and manage deadlines. Preferences goes to someone with a familiarity with web content management and email marketing; however, it is not required.
