Job Description

About the role
As a Gen AI Engineer, you will make an impact by designing, launching, and scaling agentic Generative AI solutions that reduce risk, cost, and operational complexity in large-scale production environments. You will be a valued member of the PRX AI Engineering team and will work collaboratively with production engineers, application teams, reliability engineers, and platform stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, and auditable AI-driven outcomes that improve production support and operational productivity.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and build agentic AI systems using tool-calling, structured reasoning, retrieval, and secure action execution to diagnose and remediate production issues.

  • Productionize Large Language Models (LLMs) by building evaluation frameworks, retrieval pipelines, prompt orchestration, validation layers, and self-correction loops for real-world operations.

  • Integrate AI agents with observability, incident management, and deployment ecosystems to enable automated diagnostics, runbook execution, remediation, and post-incident summarization.

  • Embed safety, reliability, and governance into AI systems through guardrails, validator models, deterministic fallbacks, circuit breakers, and rollback strategies.

  • Collaborate closely with production and application teams to translate operational pain points into measurable, business-aligned agentic AI roadmaps.

What you need to have to be considered

  • 5+ years of software development experience in Python, Java, C/C++, or Go, with strong hands-on experience building and maintaining large-scale Python applications.

  • 3+ years of experience designing, testing, deploying, and operating production ML systems, including model serving, evaluation, monitoring, and data pipelines.

  • Hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), including API integration, prompt engineering, fine-tuning or adaptation, RAG pipelines, and tool-using agents.

  • Strong understanding of commercial and open-source LLM ecosystems such as OpenAI, Gemini, Llama, Qwen, and Claude.

  • Solid foundation in applied statistics, core machine learning concepts, data structures, and algorithms, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

These will help you stand out

  • Experience building and operating cloud-native services on AWS, including ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, Redshift, Step Functions, and SageMaker.

  • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

  • Experience implementing safety, governance, and compliance controls for AI systems in production environments.

  • Strong understanding of performance optimization techniques including prompt optimization, caching, model routing, distillation, batching, and streaming.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor peers, drive design reviews, and promote high engineering and experimentation standards.
