Job Description

Job Title:       Maintenance/Grounds Keeper

Department:  Hotel Maintenance

Status:           Seasonal

Reports To:    Maintenance Supervisor

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance / Groundskeeper is responsible for ensuring the hotel property, facilities, and grounds are well maintained, safe, clean, and visually appealing. This role supports guest satisfaction by promptly addressing maintenance issues, performing routine repairs, and maintaining outdoor areas to hotel standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs to hotel facilities, including guest rooms, common areas, and back-of-house spaces.
  • Address minor work orders related to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting within scope of training.
  • Conduct regular inspections of rooms, equipment, and facilities to identify maintenance needs.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance storage areas in a safe and organized manner.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and hotel maintenance standards.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs.

Groundskeeping Responsibilities

  • Maintain hotel grounds, including lawns, landscaping, walkways, parking lots, and outdoor amenities.
  • Perform tasks such as mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, watering, fertilizing, and snow removal as needed.
  • Remove debris, litter, and hazards from outdoor areas.
  • Monitor outdoor lighting, irrigation systems, and signage for proper operation.
  • Ensure grounds are presentable and safe for guests and employees at all times.

General Responsibilities

  • Follow all hotel policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Work cooperatively with housekeeping, front desk, and management staff.
  • Report major repair needs, safety hazards, or unusual activity to management.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and courteous attitude when interacting with guests and coworkers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and groundskeeping.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred

  • Prior hotel, hospitality, maintenance, or groundskeeping experience. 
  • Experience with snow removal or seasonal maintenance 

Work Environment

  • Combination of indoor and outdoor work.
  • Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, and maintenance tools.
  • May require evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability.
