Job Description
The Systems Engineer’s role is to assist with the design, install, administration and optimization of company servers and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications supported by tuning the servers as necessary. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring new implementations and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. Where applicable, the Systems Engineer will assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity and safety of the data center/server farm.
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential functions are identified in bold and italicized text below.)
Must work safely at all times.
Develop strategies for client/server implementations; implement solutions that support these systems.
Maintain server infrastructure including but not limited to patching, upgrading and securing systems such as VMware, Citrix, Windows Server, Linux, Exchange and M365/Azure components.
Review CVEs and plan remediation when applicable, working with third parties and internal Applications teams to implement.
Ensure policies and procedures are met regarding user provisioning and terminations.
Evaluate and improve/implement automated procedures.
Provide evidence for audits such as SOX, FERC and PCI.
Provision cloud resources.
Evaluate business needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
Coordinate and collaborate with network engineering, business applications and database administration functions to ensure availability, reliability and scalability of corporate and SCADA environments to meet business demands.
Provide systems support as needed.
Act as project lead in the implementation of new server systems, applications and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed.
Participate in on-call and after-hours support as needed.
Develop and maintain lab and test environments.
Position Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN or NAS, as well as Active Directory, is required.
Familiarity with VMware, Citrix XenApp & ADC, Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, Group Policy, MS Teams and SharePoint is required.
Knowledge of CMMS technologies is required.
Familiarity with M365 and Exchange is required.
Knowledge about DNS, DFS, DHCP and SSL/TLS is required.
Strong understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
Demonstrated ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Demonstrated ability to maintain stability under pressure and be flexible and willing to modify plans and behavior when necessary.
Demonstrated ability to be a positive representative of the Company both internally and externally.
Demonstrated ability to work with respect and cooperation with fellow employees and customers.
Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science or management information systems or a related discipline is required.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is required.
Business process and reengineering experience, as well as an understanding of the relationship between processes and policies, is required.
Minimum of 3 years of equivalent work experience in a senior technical analytical position responsible for managing server environments is required.
Experience with various on-premise and cloud Backup solutions and strategies.
Experience with server performance tuning, data traffic analysis and monitoring tools.
Experience with cybersecurity best practices for corporate and SCADA environments is required.
PowerShell or VB Scripting experience is required.
Travel
Up to 10% travel required. Travel to datacenter sites when needed.
