    The Town of Scarborough's Public Works Department is seeking an experienced vehicle mechanic to join the Town's maintenance division. The full-time Fleet Maintenance Technician II will work in a team environment in the repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment including automobiles, light and heavy trucks, school buses, fire and rescue apparatus, police vehicles, and public works equipment. Duties will include: performing preventive maintenance on town vehicles, diagnosing defects of motor vehicles and mechanical equipment, and repairing various mechanical systems, including Engine, Transmission, Hydraulic and Air Brakes, Electrical systems, Hydraulic and Water systems, Cooling systems, and Drivelines.

     

    Position requirements: Professional experience as an automotive mechanic, particularly in heavy truck or equipment. Minimum CDL B or the ability to obtain a CDL within six months is required. Maine State Inspection License Class A, D, and E is required. Must have a working knowledge of standard practices, methods, equipment, and tools related to the automotive, heavy truck and construction equipment trade.Must be willing to learn ongoing repair techniques required to maintain a wide array of vehicles and heavy equipment and be familiar with all health and safety regulations related to the field. Applicants must be self-motivated, able to work independently both in shop and away from the shop, and have the ability to accept on-call duties for emergency break downs. A high school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the Town.
