Job Description


Radford University Libraries seeks a detail-oriented staff member who excels in both independent and collaborative work environments. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to accuracy, effective time management, and clear communication with colleagues.


The Technical Services Specialist is responsible for ordering and managing books, e‑books, physical media, and streaming media for Radford University Libraries. The position supports the discovery and access of library resources through copy cataloging, electronic resource maintenance, and accurate recordkeeping. This role works both independently and collaboratively and reports to the Head of Collection and Technical Services.


This position reports to the Head of Collection and Technical Services and follows a Monday–Friday schedule, with the option for up to 8 hours of telework per week.






Required Qualifications


• Demonstrated ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high level of accuracy.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
• Working knowledge of Library of Congress classification/call numbers.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets (e.g., Excel), including creating, maintaining, and analyzing data.






Preferred Qualifications:


• Experience editing MARC bibliographic and/or holdings records.
• Experience working with a library management system, including selecting, editing, and maintaining data.
• Experience with OCLC WorldShare Management Services (WMS).
• Experience with basic bookkeeping, invoices, and/or budget tracking.
• Experience with library acquisitions, including purchasing and receiving library materials from multiple vendors.
