Job Function
Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator supports daily safety operations within a warehouse or distribution center by ensuring compliance, reducing risk, and promoting a safety-first culture. This role works closely with operations leadership to maintain a safe environment for employees working with forklifts, conveyors, and material handling equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain warehouse safety programs, policies, and procedures
- Conduct daily/weekly safety walkthroughs of the warehouse floor (racking, dock areas, forklifts, conveyors)
- Identify hazards such as unsafe stacking, damaged pallets, blocked exits, and improper equipment use
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and company safety standards
- Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses; complete root cause analysis and corrective action plans
- Track and report safety metrics (TRIR, incident rates, near-miss trends)
- Coordinate and deliver safety training for warehouse associates (PIT/forklift safety, PPE, lockout/tagout, hazard communication)
- Monitor and enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Partner with supervisors to correct unsafe behaviors and improve safety performance
- Conduct safety orientations for new hires and refresher training for current employees
- Maintain safety logs, inspection reports, and compliance documentation
- Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety committee initiatives
- Support emergency preparation (evacuation drills, fire safety, spill response)
Required Skills
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred
- 2–3+ years of safety experience in a warehouse, distribution center, or logistics environment
- Working knowledge of warehouse operations (shipping, receiving, picking, packing)
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and warehouse safety practices
- Strong observation, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to influence and coach frontline employees and supervisors
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel for tracking metrics is a plus)
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (General Industry)
- Forklift/PIT trainer certification
- First Aid/CPR
- Certified Safety Coordinator (CSC) or similar
Travel
- Up to 25%
Work Environment
- Fast-paced warehouse setting with high employee movement
- Exposure to forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyors, and loading docks
- May work in varying temperatures (non-climate-controlled environments)
- Requires frequent walking the warehouse floor
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods (8–10+ hours/day)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to bend, climb, and access racking or dock areas
