SUMMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A Power BI Developer/Analyst transforms raw data into actionable business insights by designing interactive dashboards, developing complex data models, and writing DAX queries. They connect to diverse data sources, ensuring data security and performance optimization. Key roles include creating reports, conducting data analysis, and collaborating with stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Report & Dashboard Creation: Develop, publish, and maintain interactive Power BI reports and dashboards
- Data Modeling & DAX: Create complex data models (relationships, schemas, etc.) and write advanced DAX formulas for calculated columns and measures
- Data Integration (ETL): Connect to various data sources (SQL Server, SharePoint, Azure, APIs, Excel) and transform data using Power Query (M language)
- Performance Optimization: Improve report performance, dashboard responsiveness, data refresh efficiency, and underlying query performance.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with business users and cross-functional teams to gather requirements, translate business needs into reporting solutions, and provide analytical insights.
- Data Security & Governance: Ensure compliance with data governance standards, including row-level security, access controls, and overall data integrity.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
PRE-EMPLOYMENT:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must successfully complete required drug screening and physical examination.
- TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required prior to offer acceptance; MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) training to be completed upon hire
ON THE JOB SKILLS:
Power BI Desktop and Service: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Power BI Desktop and Service, including workspaces, scheduled refresh, app distribution, and workspace administration.
- Power Query and M language: Proficiency in Power Query and M language for data cleaning, reshaping, and custom transformations
- SQL & Database Knowledge: Strong SQL skills for data extraction, joining, filtering, and aggregation across relational databases
- Data Analysis Skills: Experience in data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and data modeling (star schemas)
- Data Visualization & User Experience: Ability to design clear, intuitive, and visually compelling reports and dashboards that prioritize user experience, usability, and ease of navigation, using features such as drill-throughs, bookmarks, KPIs, and conditional formatting.
- Design Thinking and Storytelling: Ability to frame data narratives around business decisions using design thinking and visual storytelling
COMPLEMENTARY SKILLS:
Advanced Excel (including VBA and Macros): Experience with Advanced Excel including VBA and Macros for workflow automation and dynamic modeling
- Python: Ability to use Python for data wrangling, statistical analysis, and Power BI script integration
- SAP: Familiarity with SAP environments, including ECC, S/4HANA, and BW, with experience extracting and working with SAP data in reporting tools such as Power BI.
- Executive Communication & Stakeholder Coordination: Ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders, coordinate across functions, and translate business needs into clear analytical outputs and action-oriented insights.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
3-5+ years in data analytics or business intelligence roles
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret information. Ability to write reports and basic business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, clients, customers and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
