Job Description:

The Clinical Staff Educator functions as an expert clinical nurse and lead preceptor for assigned clinical areas and departments. Collaborates with nursing leadership to assess the education and training needs of staff in assigned clinical areas and departments. Plans, organizes, directs, and executes educational initiatives that lead to quality patient outcomes and care delivery. Participates in organization wide education activities and rollouts. Minimum Qualifications

Education
Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required; BSN/BA required (or enrollment in a program with a written plan for completion); MSN or equivalent strongly preferred.

Credentials
Current Nebraska Sate License as a Registered Nurse. BLS, ACLS and/or other certification specific to assigned clinical areas, departments, and specialties.
Work Environment
A patient care setting. Exposure to blood and body fluids, contagious disease, hazardous chemicals, dangerous fumes, medical gases, and exposure to out of control patients, which may result in physical and/or verbal abuse.
Physical Demands
Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs. Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision. Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects.
Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair.
May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.
May require periodic use of personal computer.

Essential Functions
Serves as an expert clinical nurse and lead preceptor for assigned clinical areas and departments.
Plans, organizes, directs, and executes educational initiatives that lead to evidenced based patient outcomes and care delivery and that the patient outcomes and care delivery meet regulatory requirements.
Collaborates with nursing leadership to assess the education and training needs of staff in assigned clinical areas and departments as well as participation in hospital wide education activities.
Monitors effectiveness of initial orientation and on-going staff development. Helps establish, implement, and support competency based orientation, ongoing competency education, and evaluation of education programs.
Works with nursing leadership to ensure that qualified staff meet the ever changing demands of assigned clinical areas and departments. Labor costs to be controlled by focusing energies on retaining and maintain qualified staff.
Identifies and facilitates technology advances in the delivery of care for assigned clinical areas and departments. Provides staff education and ongoing expertise with implementation of new technology.
Acts as clinical educator and researcher for staff as well as the patients and their families/significant others in the assigned clinical areas and departments.
Assumes accountability and responsibility in assuring that skills and knowledge of the populations served in the assigned clinical areas and departments is up to date and of the highest clinical standards and evidence basis.
Possesses demonstrated skill in problem analysis, project management, and oral/written presentations.
Other duties as assigned with heightened emphasis on duties that pertain to enhancing the patient experience through direct bedside education of staff and patients in the assigned clinical areas and departments.
