Job Description

About the Department

Assists the Utilities Maintenance Superintendent in the day-to-day maintenance requirements of the Town’s Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant, water and sewer systems, buildings, grounds and infrastructure.

Position Duties

(The duties listed are intended to serve as an example of the typical functions performed. They are not exclusive or all-inclusive and will vary with assignments.)

  • Maintains lift stations including cleaning, painting, servicing, replacing and adjusting components, pumps and lines.
  • Acts as the Foremen over the Utility Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department.
  • Oversees the day-to-day maintenance of public buildings, grounds and Town facilities.
  • Supervises and schedules the day-to-day operations of the utility maintenance personnel.
  • Orders and maintains supplies and materials.
  • Assist in the design, planning of water and sewer projects.
  • Completes and oversees water meter installations and replacements.
  • Completes locations for water and sewer lines throughout the Town.
  • Maintains storm water utility infrastructures.
  • Oversees the annual testing and maintenance of the fire hydrants.
  • Repairs equipment at the water treatment plant, lift stations and Town facilities.
  • Maintains and replaces old worn out water meter registers.
  • Coordinates activities of professional consultants utilized in the maintenance of Town buildings and equipment including extermination, landscaping and cleaning services.
  • Oversees repairs to Town buildings including electrical and plumbing.
  • All duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

High School diploma or acceptable GED equivalent. Associates degree or higher preferred. Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license. Basic knowledge and understanding of plumbing, electrical and mechanical equipment. Preferred ability to operate a backhoe/loader; preferred certification in backflow prevention and cross connections; and possess a “C” license in water distribution. (A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements

  • Knowledge of mathematical skills with basic knowledge of chemistry.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of water treatment, distribution and wastewater collection system with emphasis in utility maintenance.
  • Ability to read and comprehend utility maps.
  • Ability to interact with Engineers, Contractors and other utility professionals.
  • Ability to supervise and work with subordinate personnel.
  • Knowledge of computer system.
  • Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Ability to deal with the general public with diplomacy and tact.
