About Us

At Nextracker, we design and build innovative heavy equipment that supports the rapid deployment of solar energy infrastructure. We’re looking for a skilled and driven Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. If you have hands-on experience with hydraulic, electronic, and mechanical systems — and have worked on drilling or pile driving equipment — we want to hear from you.

Position Overview

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, and repairing heavy machinery used in solar system installation, including specialized pile driving and drilling equipment. The role requires deep mechanical knowledge, practical troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety and reliability. You’ll work both in-shop and in the field, supporting equipment readiness and minimizing downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy construction equipment with a focus on hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical components.

  • Diagnose faults in hydraulic circuits, electronic control systems, and mechanical drive systems using tools, schematics, and diagnostic equipment.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential failures.

  • Install, test, and calibrate new components or system upgrades on drilling or pile driving machinery.

  • Interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and schematics to support repairs and modifications.

  • Maintain accurate records of service activities, parts usage, and repair reports.

  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and field operations to support equipment improvement and reliability initiatives.

  • Adhere to safety procedures and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in diesel technology, mechatronics, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience servicing and repairing heavy equipment.

  • Strong expertise in hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders, and hose routing.

  • Solid understanding of mobile electrical and electronic systems (e.g., CAN bus, sensors, controllers).

  • Proficient in mechanical systems including drivetrains, gearboxes, and structural assemblies.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics.

  • Capable of working independently in the field with minimal supervision.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.

Preferred:

  • Experience with pile driving rigs, drilling machines, or similar foundation construction equipment.

  • Familiarity with solar installation methods and related construction environments.

  • Welding and fabrication experience a plus.

  • CDL or heavy equipment operator certifications.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.

  • Work in outdoor environments and variable weather conditions.

  • Able to kneel, crawl, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces.

  • Willing to travel to job sites (regional or national) as required. About 30% travel.

Pay Range (Applicable to California)

$105,000.00 - $110,000.00 dependent on level of experience
