Job Description

Our RN II / Perinatal RN provides thorough and compassionate patient care and related services necessary in caring for the needs of patients in a perinatal clinic practice. Prepares equipment and assists clinicians during patient examinations, procedures and treatment. Provides efficient, timely and effective clinical triage, medical advice, patient education, health information and referral services in person and over the phone.

*This is a 40 hr/week position, Monday – Friday and will float between the NWP-W and NWP-E clinics.

DUTIES

  • Escorts patient to exam room. Performs initial assessment of patient’s vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, weight, fetal heart tones, mentation, collects urine and blood samples and patient logs of blood pressure and capillary blood glucose.
  • Performs other duties of Advice Nurse (RN II) for NWP-W and NWP-E, as outlined in the Advice Nurse (RN II) job description.
  • Answers telephone calls, makes triage judgements, schedules appointments, phones in prescriptions and completes necessary paperwork.
  • Completes the appropriate forms for laboratory tests, x-rays, special tests and procedures.
  • Prepares patients for procedures and sets up sterile instrument trays and equipment as needed.
  • Assists clinicians in diagnostic and surgical procedures and exams.
  • Performs tests, injections and other procedures as appropriate.
  • Actively manages patient follow up care by monitoring patient lab reports and referrals. Completes appropriate follow-up for patients during clinician absence. Checks with other clinicians regarding immediate action if needed.
  • Assists patients to schedule appointments with specialists as necessary.
  • Provides emotional and psychological support to patients and/or their guests. Helps patients and their families navigate fetal anomalies or demise.
  • Adheres to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintains a clean working environment. Replaces soiled linens with clean linens. Restocks and cleans examination rooms and rest rooms.
  • Documents significant information about patients into EMR and maintains patients’ electronic chart per established guidelines.
  • Counsels and educates patients in Perinatal issues including preterm labor, labs, diet, exercise, medications, menstrual cycle, breast exams, hormones, diabetes management, labor and delivery, fetal anomalies, and maternal complications.
  • Calls patients prior to telehealth visits and reviews the patient chart. Gathers assessment information from patient.
  • Counsels, advises and assists LPNs, MAs or non-licensed personnel as appropriate.
  • Washes and sterilizes instruments. Maintains and inspects instruments and autoclave to ensure safety and proper function. Maintains equipment and instruments used for diagnostic procedures.
  • Maintains various logs and records.
  • Assists clinician in completing disability paperwork.
  • Coordinates patient consults with other clinicians.
  • Staffs the Antepartum Testing Room performing non-stress tests.
  • Coordinates care with labor and delivery management and provides discharge education at the hospital for patients with special needs as needed.
