    Join Sumner Middle School, located in the picturesque town of Sullivan, Maine. Nestled just 15 minutes east of Ellsworth and 40 miles from Bangor, our brand-new Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus serves both Sumner Middle School and Sumner Memorial High School. With approximately 147 students in grades 6-8, our school fosters an environment that challenges students while providing a safe and respectful learning space. Our mission is to empower students to navigate diverse environments and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

    Position Overview:

    We are seeking a team-oriented, energetic, and creative educator to teach Science at Sumner Middle School. The ideal candidate will inspire curiosity about the natural world, engage students in hands-on scientific inquiry, and support their academic and social-emotional growth.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or a related field.
    • Valid Maine Teacher Certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
    • Current Maine Department of Education (MDOE) Criminal History Records Check.
    • Experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) program is preferred.
    • Strong classroom management skills and a passion for student-centered learning.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Science lessons aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
    • Utilize a variety of assessment methods to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports students' social-emotional well-being.
    • Implement PBIS strategies to encourage positive behavior and maintain a structured, respectful learning space.
    • Utilize the BARR program to build strong relationships with students and identify early signs of academic or social challenges.
    • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success.
    • Integrate technology effectively into instruction to enhance student learning experiences.
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with families.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in Science instruction.
