Job Description

The Rivers School — a 6-12 co-ed independent day school in Weston, MA, just outside Boston — seeks professionals who are looking to join a dynamic, innovative, and welcoming school community.

Position Purpose

The Facilities Worker is responsible for day-to-day cleaning and general maintenance of various interior and exterior spaces on The Rivers School campus. The Facilities Worker collaborates closely daily with a team of other facilities management professionals to process events, assisting with rental group needs and, in general, helping to provide a safe and clean learning environment for students and the adults who teach them.

Essential Job Functions

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedure, with a focus on weekend rental group and sports group use.
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers.
  • Clean and sanitize locker rooms.
  • Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc. by moving furniture and equipment.
  • Vacuum and spot clean carpets
  • Use ladders when required in work assignments.
  • Lock and unlock buildings according to scheduled use, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.
  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows.
  • Attend to emergencies when necessary.
  • Handle recycling materials.
  • Process work orders.
  • Performs preventative maintenance in and around facilities.
  • Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks, stairs, and all other campus areas.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Perform deep cleaning and light maintenance on all fitness equipment.
  • Direct traffic and park vehicles.
  • Snow removal as needed.
  • Serve as facilities contact person while on duty and provide appropriate assistance to rental groups as needed, to include managing school owned equipment used by rental groups.
  • Set up tables, trash barrels, etc. as required to meet the needs of any group using Rivers’ facilities.
  • Problem solve with various groups to meet the needs of that group.
  • Overtime required as necessary
  • Ability to keep open lines of communication with Director of Facilities and other Facilities Department members throughout the shift

Equipment Used

In Order To Complete The Essential Job Functions, The Facilities Flex Worker Must Be Proficient Using Basic Cleaning And Maintenance Equipment Including, But Not Limited To The Following

  • Basic sanitizing and cleaning equipment
  • Brooms/Mops/Shovels/rakes and other hand tools
  • Paint brushes, rollers and other painting equipment
  • Snow blower
  • All-Terrain Utility Vehicles
  • Full-Sized Pickup Trucks
  • Step and extension ladders
  • Genie Lift
  • String Trimmers/Mowers/Leaf blowers
  • Furniture dollies/pallet jacks
  • Misc. power tools
  • Operate trucks and tractors
  • Cell Phone

Schedule

In order to complete the essential work functions, the Facilities Worker will work Monday- Friday, 8 am- 5pm.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: High School or equivalent diploma preferred. Previous working experience in a custodial role preferred. Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver’s license.

Required Skills

  • Ability to easily change direction during the day to accommodate facility needs.
  • Irrigation maintenance experience is a plus.
  • Must show a positive attitude towards other members of the team and community.
  • Ability to take direction as well as work independently as a self-starter.
  • Ability to perform physical work including bending, stooping and reaching; must be able to work on feet for extended periods of time, and to lift, carry, and push at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate small gasoline-powered tools like mowers, snow blowers, and leaf blowers
  • Ability to work on ladders up to 20’ above the floor/ground.
  • Must have the flexibility to work days and weekends several times a year, to staff events.
  • Ability to work required overtime

Salary range: $18-23
