JOB DESCRIPTION


                                                                                                                       


 


 


TITLE:                   Substitute School Nurse


QUALIFICATIONS:   Valid state license to practice as licensed practical nurse or registered nurse.


 


REPORTS TO:            Director of Student Services 


 


JOB GOAL:                 To assist students and staff in acquiring health knowledge and develop attitudes conducive to healthful living.


 


                                       To maintain and promote the health of all students.


 


                                       To help parents recognize and assume their responsibilities concerning the student’s health.


 


 


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


 




  1. Carry out appraisal activities to assess the health status of students and discover their health needs and problems.




  2. Conducts vision, hearing, and dental screening.




  3. Counsel students and their parents to secure needed medical, dental, or other treatment.




  4. Utilize community resources regarding referral and correction.




  5. Serve as consultant and resource person for total health education program.




  6. Serve on School Health Council.




  7. Serve as liaison between school and community and welfare agencies and the medical profession.  Also, serve as liaison between school and home.




  8. Protect student health by providing emergency care for illness or injury occurring in school or while the student is under jurisdiction of school.




  9. Cooperate in community health planning.




  10. Assist in communicable disease control, assisting school personnel in screening for communicable diseases and by interpreting and encouraging and obeying immunization laws.




  11. Refer students to the physicians for diagnosis and treatment.




  12. Maintain current health records on all students.




  13. Give health programs to students.




  14. Continue educations of nurses through workshops and conventions.




  15. Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.




  16. Purchase first aid supplies and stock all school health rooms.




  17. Participate in 504 and IEP conferences




  18. Keep abreast of new developments in the field.




  19. Performs such other duties as assigned by Director of Student Services and Deputy or Assistant Superintendent.


     


    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  From 9 to 10 months. Salary established by the Board.


     


    EVALUATION:          Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
