About the Department
The Animal Services Department is seeking a RVT to join our team! Our mission is to create PAWsitive impact by enriching the lives of animals and people. We accomplish this by caring for thousands of animals (domestic and wildlife) annually and working to reunite them with their owners, rehome them, or transfer them to rescue and rehabilitation organizations. We also play an important role in assisting the public with their animal-related concerns. Position Duties
The Animal Center’s Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in the Department’s care. Under the direction of the veterinarian, they treat sick and injured animals, assist in surgery, conduct physical exams, perform euthanasia, support critical care needs, and make recommendations for transferring pets to offsite veterinary partners. RVTs also serve as leaders within the team by providing guidance and mentorship to veterinary attendants and assistants.

You'll be responsible for:- Performing all duties of a licensed Veterinary Technician including anesthesia, surgical prep and monitoring, bandage/splint application, dentistry, radiology, emergency triage and hospitalized patient nursing care.
- Administering medications, immunizations, and microchips.
- Performing intake and exit examinations for animals coming in to and leaving the Center.
- Coordinating with management to arrange outside Veterinary Care for specialized cases and emergency transfers.
- Performing animal assessments including temperature, pulse and respiration.
- Collecting various samples for in house and reference laboratory diagnostics.
- Maintaining medical records, drug logs and other legally required documentation of our animals.
- Providing daily care and enrichment to all animals at the center.
- Performing humane euthanasia.
- Counseling adopters and the public on animals with special ongoing medical conditions and fosters.
- Providing direct oversight of our Veterinary Assistants and animal attendants.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of recent experience working with domestic animals as a Registered Veterinary Technician in a veterinary hospital or other animal facility. Possess appropriate medical training and certification to administer medications and medical procedures. Prior animal shelter experience is highly desirable.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C or Class 3 California Driver’s License, and have a satisfactory driving record.
Possession of a current Registered Veterinary Technician License issued by the California State Board of Examiners in Veterinary Medicine.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of various breeds of dogs, cats and other domestic animals; principles of animal behavior, care and husbandry; customer service practices; basic principles of recordkeeping; office organization and cleaning, ability to effectively restrain animals for medical exams; cleaning animal kennels; safe driving principles and practices.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely; operate computer equipment, office equipment and software programs; administer injections and medications to all types of animals; handle animals in a safe and caring manner; learn, understand, and interpret rules and regulations governing the impounding and release of animals; recognize normal and abnormal animal behavior; prepare and maintain accurate and complete records; meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public; respond to requests and inquiries for information regarding animal services; work independently in the absence of supervision; understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including staff, the public and health care professionals.
Special Requirements:
Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, and on-call basis.
