Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Youth & Family Director/Sr Program Director, the Fun Fit Instructor will provide an educational, healthy, safe, and fun-filled experience to all individuals participating in the Fun Fit program.

 

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

  1. Minimum age of 18
  2. Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience working with school age children

 

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to routinely perform the following moderate physical activities; climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity
  2. Must possess and demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment; and the desire to work with all ages, especially children
  3. Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  4. Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment and the desire to work with all ages, especially youth
  5. Must exhibit initiative in the absence of supervision
  6. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  7. Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines
  8. Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times

 

Job Requirements:

  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  3. Complete CPR/AED, First Aid and Fun Fit Instructor Workshop in accordance with Conditions of Employment
  4. Learn all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch as necessary
  5. Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  6. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch; including weekends and evenings

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serving as a resource.  Utilizing handouts, current brochures, charts and other information for increasing member knowledge of fitness.
  2. Performing administrative duties: maintain daily attendance records and supplies.
  3. Documenting all behavior issues or unusual situations.
  4. Smiling and greeting each child and parent by name. Building effective, authentic relationships with children, parents, volunteers and staff.
  5. Instructing Fun Fit classes via lesson plans with clear and measurable objectives.
  6. Establishing relationship with youth through interaction and instruction. Striving to provide EACH child with personal guidance and assistance.
  7. Providing supervision and instruction in the Fun Fit Program: following guidelines for safe exercise.
  8. Serving as a resource.  Utilizing handouts, current brochures, charts and other information for increasing member knowledge of fitness.
  9. Providing clear and consistent expectations for behavior; setting firm limits with positive phrasing and actions when necessary.  Supporting and demonstrating discipline practices in accordance with YMCA policies. 
  10. Submitting completed records on time (i.e. attendance, behavior issues, etc).
  11. Completing daily cleaning duties and additional as deemed necessary. Reporting any facility or equipment irregularities, unsafe conditions or feedback to supervisor in writing.
  12. Following and enforcing all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  13. Being knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency procedures. 
  14. Reporting all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form as required and provide to supervisor within 24 hours.
  15. Attending all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
  16. Supporting Annual Campaign fundraising.
  17. Child Abuse Prevention - Responsible for adhering to boundary policies, attending required training, reporting concerns, following mandated reporting policy, fulfilling job-specific responsibilities such as maintaining and securing unused areas, and ensuring proper sign-in/out procedures.
  18. All other duties as assigned.
