Summary of Function
To plan, organize, and implement an excellent learning environment that guides and encourages
students to meet their educational potential in the field of woodworking and construction

This is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) position within the Construction Science
Technologies program area. The Woodshop Teacher delivers hands-on instruction in
woodworking, shop safety, project construction, tool use, and drafting fundamentals, with an
emphasis on safety, craftsmanship, and real-world application of construction and
manufacturing skills.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
● Bachelor's degree required.
● Valid Arizona Department of Education CTE Industrial and Emerging Technologies, K-12
certificate required. Applicants may qualify through one of the following pathways:
o Bachelor's degree in construction technology, woodworking, manufacturing,
carpentry, or a related Industrial and Emerging Technologies field; or
o Valid Arizona teaching certificate in any area, plus one year of satisfactory
teaching evaluations and three semester hours of CTE professional knowledge
coursework; or

o Verified five or more years of professional work experience in woodworking,
carpentry, cabinetmaking, construction, or a related Industrial and Emerging
Technologies occupational area (Specialized CTE certificate pathway).
● Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement, English as a Second Language (ESL), or
Bilingual endorsement required within one year of hire.
● Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
Duties and responsibilities
Instructional planning
● Plans instruction aligned to Arizona State Standards and CTE Construction Science
Technologies program standards to meet classroom and student-based objectives.
● Assesses students' skills to determine proficiency and identify appropriate classroom
supports.
● Organizes time, space, materials, tools, and equipment needed for safe and effective
woodshop instruction.
● Plans hands-on projects and activities that develop woodworking skills, drafting
fundamentals, and construction knowledge through active student engagement.
Instructional strategies & instruction
● Presents woodworking subject matter — including shop safety, tool identification and
use, joinery, project planning, drafting, and finishing techniques — in a clear and logical
way.
● Provides explicit instruction and demonstration in the safe and proper use of hand tools,
power tools, and shop equipment before students are permitted independent use.
● Uses effective instructional strategies to maximize student time on task in both direct
instruction and hands-on project work.
● Differentiates instruction and provides prompt, specific feedback to students on their
work quality, technique, and safe practices.
Instructional environment
● Establishes, teaches, and consistently enforces shop safety rules and procedures;
maintains a safe working environment at all times.
● Supervises students closely during all tool and equipment use; ensures personal
protective equipment is worn as required.
● Maintains an organized, clean, and well-supplied shop environment; conducts regular
inspection and maintenance of tools and equipment.
● Models professional courtesy, craftsmanship standards, and respect in manner and
conduct.
● Provides a positive learning environment that promotes a growth mindset, embraces
diversity, and encourages students to take pride in the quality of their work.
Professional responsibilities
● Meets professional responsibilities as outlined in district policy and engages in ongoing
professional development.

● Maintains accurate records of grades, attendance, and CTE program documentation; is
accessible to students and parents.
● Demonstrates ethical and professional practices in working with students, parents,
colleagues, and student records.
● Refers students with special needs to counselors, specialists, or the school nurse as
appropriate.
● Enforces school policies, rules, and procedures in the classroom, shop, on campus, and
at school-related activities.
● Complies with Arizona Revised Statutes, district policies, federal laws and regulations,
and administrative guidelines.
● Performs other duties as assigned by building administration or the Superintendent.
Working conditions
Indoor — woodshop and classroom environment. Outdoor — all weather conditions and
temperatures as required. Contact with the public, employees, students, and parents. Exposure
to noise, sawdust, wood finishes, adhesives, and fumes consistent with a woodshop
environment. Use of personal protective equipment required.
Physical requirements
Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion and movement is required.
Work involves standing and moving for extended periods of time, moving from one location to
another, reaching, bending, stooping, and holding or grasping objects. The woodshop
environment requires the ability to demonstrate tool use, lift and carry lumber and materials,
and supervise students in close proximity to machinery. Verbal communication ability required.
Assistance is available as needed to perform physically demanding tasks.
Equipment, Aids, Tools and Materials
Uses whiteboards, computers, video projectors, and standard instructional equipment.
Woodshop-specific equipment includes hand tools, power tools (table saw, band saw, drill press,
sanders, jointer, planer, and related machinery), measuring and layout tools, finishing supplies,
and safety equipment including personal protective gear. FUSD expects all staff to keep abreast
of changing technology and make use of tools and devices provided to them.
Mental Tasks
Communicates verbally and in writing. Reads. Analyze and evaluate student progress and
course curriculum. Develop, implement and evaluate plans. Manages classroom. Promotes
learning and ensures safety. Perform functions from written and oral instruction and from
