Description

The Quality Engineer is charged with the responsibility for ensuring all plans, methods, and controls are in place to repeatedly produce products to our customers’ needs.  The Quality Engineer investigates if failures occur and corrects the condition at the system level whenever possible. 

All employees are charged with providing assistance in generally similar duties when management deems it necessary.

Organizational Relationships and Authority

The Quality Engineer reports directly to Quality Manager

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Quality Engineer is to manage the quality assurance, non-conformance, and corrective action processes. This position provides risk analysis for quality assurance and problem-solving skills regarding customer, supplier, and manufacturing quality issues.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Participate in design reviews, product launch, and manufacturing processes to ensure that quality requirements are incorporated from the early stages of product launch.
  • Launch readiness: Prepare and review qualification packages (FAI, Gage R&R, PFMEA, capability studies, control plans, process validation).
  • Problem-solving excellence: Lead teams through issue identification, root cause analysis, and verified corrective actions using 8D, 5-Why, fishbone, and process maps.
  • Supplier excellence: Lead development and validation activities; improve supplier quality performance.
  • Ensure timely supplier failure resolution with corrective and preventive actions.
  • Define incoming inspection needs for supplier materials.
  • Assess and improve internal/external process capability.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering and the customer to assure products meet customer needs.
  • Work directly with the Engineering Team to approve / revised tools and processes.
  • Risk minimization through use of appropriate risk assessment tools and verification of the robustness of detection and prevention systems for special characteristics.
  • Provide quality support to the technical and manufacturing teams, as well as drive/support daily operations.
  • Demonstrate practical understanding of manufacturing processes to objectively and independently analyze problems, communicate effectively and facilitate problem solving activities.
  • Analyzing failures, corrective, and preventive action to respond to customer complaints

COMPENTENCIES:

  • Ability to apply problem solving methodology to positively impact business objectives.
  • Sound knowledge of quality management with in-depth knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control disciplines.
  • Experience and proficiency in understanding ISO 9001, IATF 16949 along with knowledge in Statistical Tools and Techniques, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, and Measurement System Analysis recommended.
  • Possess production operation knowledge and experience relating to manufacturing, inspection, engineering and customer interaction.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, a high level of assertiveness as well as entrepreneurial thinking and goal- and result-oriented decision-making skills

Requirements

Quality Engineers are expected to work independently managing time and priorities accordingly, able to effectively communicate with external and internal customers, work efficiently and effectively in a face paced manufacturing environment, and be available to work extended hours and weekends if necessary.

 

Education and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in ISO or IATF manufacturing quality assurance / quality engineering or similar.
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.

·         Certified Quality Engineer preferred.

·         Tier 1 automotive experience preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly or occasionally required to meet the following physical demands:

 

  • Able to wear proper PPE when working within departments which may include but not limited to:  Earplugs, Safety Glasses, Steel Toe Boots with metatarsal guards, welding helmet, face shield, Kevlar gloves, Kevlar sleeves.
  • Able to speak clearly and understandably, with  a pleasant tone of voice and manner
  • Ability to hear within a range that enables normal telephone communication
  • Able to see a computer screen within reasonable reading distance without strain
  • Able to type at a keyboard without bodily or psychological discomfort most of the working day
  • Ability to ambulate around the office environment and manufacturing floor comfortably and safely in order to fulfill tasks required in various offices and departments
  • Ability to travel via private or commercial aircraft or automobile to other plant locations for inspection, training or auditing activities      
  • Able to lift 40 lbs. and be on their feet for extended periods of time during the shift.
