Description
The prestigious New York Athletic Club, one of the world's premier private clubs, founded in 1868 located on Central Park South in Manhattan is seeking a full-time skilled painter to join our team.
Responsibilities.
- Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc.
- Fill and patch openings, cracks, and holes with appropriate material (e.g. tape, plaster, spackle, etc.)
- Mix paint and other materials to prepare the right color or texture
- Paint surfaces to high standard according to instructions and trade requirements with various tools
- Apply varnish and other finishes to best match like conditions
- Take and adhere to all health and safety precautions and departmental rules
Requirements
- Proven experience as a painter and wallpaper installer
- Experience in touch up and refinishing wood surfaces and furniture a plus
- Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them
- Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction wall preparation and painting techniques
- Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns, joint tape, putty knife, spatula, etc.)
- Good basic math skills
- Conscientious with great attention to detail
- Physically able to sit, stand, kneel, lift and climb ladders.
- Work independently or as a team.
- Able to follow written and verbal instruction.
- High school diploma; successful completion of an apprenticeship
The position is fulltime, (Mon.-Fri.) from 8:00am - 3:30pm,.
Requirements
The applicant requires knowledge and verifiable experience in plastering, spackle, wall preparation, painting, repair and installation of wallpaper, with furniture refinishing and touchup a plus.
